Recalls: Audi C8 A6
Overview
Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.
Recalls: Audi C8 A6
2018-20 Audi C8 A6 45 TFSI quattro (2.0 TFSI MHEV): starter-alternator could ignite
In July 2020, recall campaign 27H2 was issued for Audi C8 A6 vehicles that had 2.0 TFSI engine and mild hybrid (MHEV) systems, and were manufactured prior to March 2020. In these vehicles, moisture may enter a gap in the housing of the starter-alternator and cause that component to overheat. If this occurred, the component could ignite and the subsequent fire posed a risk of injury to vehicle occupants and persons, and risk of damage to property. 2020 model year Audi C8 A6: front passenger airbag defect
In June 2021, recall campaign 70I2 was issued for 2020 model year Audi C8 A6 vehicles. Due to a manufacturing defect with the vehicle’s dashboard panel, the front passenger airbag may not fully inflate and/or plastic fragments may be propelled through the airbag cushion towards vehicle occupants in the event of a collision. 2018-21 Audi C8 A6: seatbelt warning may operate occasionally
In July 2021, recall campaign 90P5 was issued for 2018-21 Audi C8 A6 vehicles. The seatbelt warning (acoustic warning tone and visual display) may operate occasionally, rather than continuously, in circumstances such as a seatbelt not fastened or unfastened while the vehicle was moving. If the warning did not sound continuously, a seatbelt may be unbuckled without the driver being informed. 2019-21 Audi C8 A6: rear axle nuts could break and cause loss of control
In September 2021, recall campaign 42L1 was issued for 2019-21 Audi C8 A6 vehicles. Some nuts fitted to the rear axle assembly did not meet manufacturing specifications and could therefore break. A broken nut may lead to increased movement between the wishbone and hub carrier, and a change in the wheel alignment on the rear axle. These conditions could cause sudden and uncontrollable movement of the rear axle, thereby increasing the risk of injury and death to vehicle occupants and other road users. 2019-21 Audi C8 A6: misalignment of rear axle from previous recall
In March 2022, recall campaign 42L5 was issued for 2019-21 Audi C8 A6 vehicles. The previous replacement of the rear axle clamping nuts as part of recall 42L1 may have caused misalignment of the rear axle assembly; this could result in excessive wear to the rear tyres, and may result in a sudden flat tyre and subsequent loss of vehicle control. 2018-22 Audi C8 A6: water ingress could damage Gateway Control Unit
In February 2023, recall campaign 90V2 was issued for 2018-22 Audi C8 A6 vehicles. If there liquid or liquid droplets were spilt on the rear seat bench of these vehicles, the control unit for network management could be damaged and fail. A failure of the Gateway Control Unit unit could have various effects on vehicle functions and restricted functions would be indicated by warning messages in the instrument cluster. Possible restricted functions could be –
- Engine: the engine could enter emergency running mode and continue running with reduced performance;
- Gearbox: the automatic gearbox could interrupt the transmission of power to the drive train;
- Steering: steering assistance could be reduced in stages, such that the driver may need to use more force to turn the steering wheel, especially at low speeds.

2018-22 Audi C8 A6: incorrect fuel level display
In March 2023, recall campaign 20DN was issued for 2018-22 Audi C8 A6 vehicles. Due to a manufacturing defect, the fuel level indicator may not work as intended. This may result in an incorrect display of the fuel level such that the driver may not be aware of the fuel tank emptying. If the fuel tank became empty, the vehicle may lose power and break down without warning. Furthermore, sudden loss of power increased the risk of collision, increasing the risk of injury to vehicle occupants and other road users.
