Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.

2020 BMW G06 X6: front axle weld and loss of steering

In January 2021, recall campaign 0031020200 was issued for BMW G06 X6 vehicles that were available for sale in Australia from 1 Mary 2020 to 31 October 2020. Due to a fault in the welding process, a weld seam on the front axle was not welded properly. The incorrect welding could lead to complete separation of the right hand side tension strut, resulting in a loss of steering control. Sudden loss of steering control increased the risk of a collision, posing a hazard to vehicle occupants and other road users. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see PRA 2020/18681.

2019-20 BMW G06 X6: loss of power braking and ABS

In June 2021, recall campaign 00 34 4502 00 was issued for BMW G06 X6 vehicles that were available for sale in Australia from 27 July 2019 to 23 November 2020. Due to a manufacturing fault in the hydraulic unit brake booster, panic braking could cause loss of brake power assistance and the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) without prior warning. Although the electronic brake force distribution function was maintained, the loss of the Anti-lock Braking System may reduce braking performance; this could increase the risk of a collision and injury to vehicle occupants or other road users. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see PRA 2021/18869.

2022-23 BMW G06 X6: defect in brake system controller

In March 2024, recall campaign 0034670200 was issued for 2022-23 BMW G06 X6 vehicles. Due to a manufacturing defect, signal interference may occur within the electronics of the brake system. If this occurred, a higher pedal force may be required for braking. Furthermore, the anti-lock braking (ABS) system and dynamic stability control (DSC) system would not be available. If this occurred, the vehicle would remain controllable, but braking distance may be increased and this increased the risk of a collision. However, drivers would be alerted of this fault by the brake warning light in the instrument cluster and a message on the central display. To fix, the electronic brake system system controller was to be replaced at a BMW dealership. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-005906.
