Recalls: Hyundai TB Getz

Overview

Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Recalls: Hyundai TB Getz

  • In March 2004, a recall was issued for Hyundai TB Getz models manufactured from August 2002 to September 2003 due to the potential for water to enter the ABS control module connector block; this could result in the electrical connectors corroding, disabling the ABS function and causing the ABS warning light to illuminate (PRA 2004/6884).

2002-03 Hyundai Getz 1.3i: excessive fuel consumption

In March 2005, Hyundai Motor Corporation issued Technical Bulletin 5-27-P11-TB for European-delivered Hyundai Getz vehicles that had 1.3-litre SOHC petrol engines. Some of these vehicles may experience excessive fuel consumption and, if so, it was necessary to replace the pistons and piston rings with new parts whose compression ratio increased from 9.5:1 to 10.0:1. To match the change in compression ratio, the ECM (Engine Control Module) software had to be updated with new logic.

2004 Hyundai Getz: rear screen demister

In July 2004, Hyundai issued a technical bulletin for Hyundai TB Getz vehicles that were manufactured from May 2004 to June 2004. In these vehicles, the rear screen demister may turn off within 20 minutes of the rear screen demister switch being turned on. For affected vehicles, the ETACS unit (part no. 95400-1C200C) was to be inspected and, if necessary, replaced.

Problems and faults: Hyundai TB Getz

  • If the Hyundai Getz’s engine surges after cold starts, the ECU (electronic control unit) may require reprogramming.
  • If the Getz’s engine cranks but won’t start, the antenna from the ignition to the starter motor may need to be replaced.
  • Excessive wear for the front tyres may be due to a lack of camber adjustment.
  • Stone chips or paint flaking may be due to poor quality paint.
