Recalls: Lexus AZ10 NX

Overview

Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.

Recalls: Lexus AZ10 NX

2014-15 Lexus NX 200t: ABS may not operate

In May 2015, a recall was issued for Lexus NX 200t vehicles that were produced from 18 December 2014 to 3 February 2015. In these vehicles, a component inside the ABS actuator may have been damaged during the assembly process and may therefore not operate as intended. In driving conditions where ABS was required, failure of the ABS actuator to operate could cause a loss of vehicle stability, thereby increasing the risk of an accident (PRA 2015/14730). The recalled NX 200t vehicles had VINs in the following ranges:

  • JTJ YARBZ # 02004659 to JTJ YARBZ # 02005774; and,
  • JTJ BARBZ # 02006353 to JTJ BARBZ # 02010825.

Lexus NX 200t and NX 300h: parking brake may deactivate and vehicle could move forward

In December 2016, a recall was issued for Lexus NX 200t and NX 300h vehicles. These vehicles had a brake hold function that was designed to keep the brake applied after the vehicle had come to a complete stop. Under certain conditions, the system was designed to deactivate the brake hold function, warn the driver and automatically set the parking brake. Due to improper programming, however, the parking brake may not automatically apply when the system was deactivated by certain conditions. If this occurred, the vehicle could move forward and this would increase the risk of a collision (PRA 2016/15807). The recalled vehicles were as follows –

  • NX 200t: JTJ BARBZ # 02002817 to JTJ BARBZ # 02112323 (manufactured from 1 December 2014 to 7 December 2016);
  • NX 200t: JTJ YARBZ # 02002196 to JTJ YARBZ # 02061827 (manufactured from 1 December 2014 to 7 December 2016);
  • NX 300h: JTJ BJRBZ # 02000148 to JTJ BJRBZ 02057383 (manufactured from 21 July 2014 to 7 December 2016); and,
  • NX 300h: JTJ YWRBZ # 02000113 to JTJ YWRBZ # 02014772 (manufactured from 22 July 2014 to 7 December 2016).

2015 Lexus AZ10 NX 200t and NX 300h: airbags could be de-activated

In February 2018, a recall was issued for Lexus NX 200t and NX 300h vehicles that were manufactured from 25 May 2015 to 16 October 2015. Over time, insulation layers of the Integrated Circuit (IC) chip within the airbag system could peel and create an open circuit in the IC chip. If this occurred, the airbag warning light would illuminate and the side/curtain and/or front airbags could be de-activated – this increased the risk of occupant injury in the event of a collision (PRA 2018/16584). The recalled vehicles had VINs in the following ranges –

  • Lexus NX 200t:
    • JTJ BARBZ # 02028552 to JTJ BARBZ # 02052384;
    • JTJ YARBZ # 02013849 to JTJ YARBZ 02024624;
  • Lexus NX 300h:
    • JTJ BJRBZ # 02019647 to JTJ BJRBZ # 02032798; and,
    • JTJ YWRBZ # 02006373 to JTJ YWRBZ # 02009992.

2014-19 Lexus Z10 NX 200t: low-pressure fuel pump may stop working

In April 2020 and November 2020, recall campaigns VGG17 and VGG05 were issued for Lexus Z10 NX 200t vehicles that were manufactured from December 2014 to April 2019. In these vehicles, the low-pressure fuel pump could stop operating – if this occurred, the engine may stall and the vehicle may not restart; alternatively, the engine may not run smoothly. Beyond this, warning lights and messages may be displayed on the instrument panel. To fix, the low-pressure fuel pump was to be replaced. 2015 model year Lexus NX 200t: malfunction indicator light and P0087

In September 2015, Lexus issued Service Bulletin L-SB-0050-15 for 2015 model year Lexus NX 200t vehicles that had 2.0-litre 8AR-FTS turbocharged petrol engines. In these vehicles,

  • The Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) may illuminate; and,
  • Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0087 (‘Fuel Rail/System Pressure – Too Low’) may be stored in the ECM.

To fix, the ECM was to be re-programmed with an updated calibration.

2015-16 model year Lexus NX 200t: malfunction indicator light and P019023

In August 2016, Lexus issued Service Bulletin L-SB-0041-16 for 2015-16 model year Lexus NX 200t vehicles that had 2.0-litre 8AR-FTS turbocharged petrol engines. In these vehicles,

  • The Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) may illuminate; and,
  • Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P019023 – Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor ‘A’ Signal Stuck Low – may be stored in the ECM.

To fix, the ECM was to be re-programmed with an updated calibration.
