Recalls: Peugeot 406

Overview

Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.

Recalls: Peugeot 406

  • In November 1998, a recall was issued for Peugeot 406 3.0 V6 variants that were manufactured between September 1997 and May 1998. In these vehicles, deformed wheel rims may cause premature tyre deflation (PRA 1998/3708).
  • In April 1999, a recall was issued for Peugeot 406 vehicles manufactured between June 1996 and August 1998. In these vehicles, the fuel hose in the engine bay was to be replaced to prevent the possible leakage of fuel and the possibility that the leaked fluid may catch fire (PRA 1999/3923). The affected vehicles were in the following VIN ranges:
    • VF3 8BRFVE80 090207 to 80549623;
    • VF3 8BRFVP80 169069 to 80493475; and,
    • VF3 8BRFVT80 538013 to 80578515.
  • In August 1999, a recall was issued for Peugeot 406 vehicles that were sold between 23 June 1997 and 19 November 2008 – these vehicles may have been fitted with a spare wheel of incorrect specification (PRA 1999/4063).
  • In February 2000, a recall was issued for Peugeot 406 vehicles manufactured between September 1999 and November 1999. In these vehicles, there may be a loss of braking power assistance if the braking pedal was applied several times in close succession (PRA 2000/4242).
  • In August 2001, a recall was issued for Peugeot 406 vehicles manufactured between September 2000 and October 2000. In these vehicles, there could be a loss of braking assistance due to the brake vacuum pipe coming into contact with the engine wiring loom and wearing through (PRA 2001/4851).
  • In April 2002, a recall was issued for Peugeot 406 2.0 HDi variants due to the possibility of water entering the engine management solenoid valve operating circuit (PRA 2002/5313).
  • In July 2003, a recall was issued for Peugeot 406 vehicles that were manufactured between June 2001 and March 2003. In these vehicles, the lateral airbags and pretensioners may not deploy correctly during a serious collision (PRA 2003/6354).
