Recalls: Skoda NP Superb
Overview
Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.
Recalls: Skoda NP Superb
Skoda NP Superb wagon with sunroof: crush hazard
In April 2016, a recall was issued for Skoda NP Superb wagon vehicles because the specified limits of the rollback function of the sunroof may be exceeded when it is closed by using the remote key – this posed a crush hazard if limbs were trapped in the sunroof as it closed (PRA 2016/15296).
2017 model year Skoda Superb: seatbelt tensioner may not deploy
In April 2017, a recall was issued for 2017 model year Skoda NP Superb vehicles. In the event of a collision, variations in the mixture ratio of propellant for the seatbelt tensioner may prevent the tensioner from deploying – this would increase the risk of injury to occupants (PRA 2017/16020). The recalled Skoda Superb vehicles had the following VINs:
- TMBME4NP8H7020564;
- TMBME4NPXH7020601;
- TMBME4NP1H7020714;
- TMBME4NP9H7020802;
- TMBBD4NP9H7022480;
- TMBBD4NP3H7500635; and,
- TMBDE4NP5H7501145.
2016-18 model year Skoda NP Superb: Takata driver’s airbag recall
In July 2018, a recall was issued for 2016-18 model year Skoda NP Superb vehicles. In these vehicles, the Takata-supplied driver’s airbag contained propellant wafers that could degrade over time due to the absorption of moisture. If the vehicle was in a collision that triggered the airbag, excessive internal pressure could cause the metal airbag inflator housing to explode/rupture, such that metal fragments would be projected through the airbag material and into the cabin – these metal fragments posed a serious risk of injury or fatality. 2018 model year Skoda NP Superb: driver airbag may not fully inflate
In July 2019, recall campaign 69Y9 was issued for 2018 model year Skoda NP Superb vehicles. In some instances, the front driver airbag may not inflate to its fully capacity fast enough in the event of a collision and this increased the risk of injury to the driver. 2015-18 model year Skoda NP Superb: front turn signal failure
In March 2020, recall campaign 97DR was issued for 2015-18 model year Skoda NP Superb vehicles. The front turn signal in these vehicles may fail and this failure may not be detected, such that no warning lights or sounds would be activated. Failure of the front turn signal increased the likelihood of a collision and injury to vehicle occupants and other road users. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see PRA 2020/18235.
