The Mercedes-Benz OM640 was a four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that was available from 2004 and developed for the front-wheel drive W169 A-Class and W245 B-Class.
With a capacity of 1991 cc, the OM640 diesel engine had 83.0 mm bores and a 92.0 mm stroke, a cast iron block, an alloy cylinder head, common-rail direct injection (operating at 1600 bar), an intercooler, double overhead camshafts (chain-driven), four valves per cylinder and a compression ratio of 18.0:1.
While the 60 kW and 80 kW OM640 engines (for the A 160 CDI, A 180 CDI and B 180 CDI) were fitted IHI’s RHF4H turbocharger, the 103 kW engine (for the A 200 CDI and B 200 CDI) had a Borg Warner BV43 turbocharger.
