Review: Peugeot T5 307 CC (2003-05)

Overview

Released in December 2003, the Peugeot T5 307 CC was a four seat, two-door convertible with a retractable hard-top roof. Manufactured in Sochaux, France, the front-wheel drive 307 CC was powered by 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engines.

EW10 engines

Of the engines,

• the 2.0-litre EW10 J4 engine for Dynamique variants had sequential fuel injection, twin-static ignition, double overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder and a compression ratio of 10.0:1; and,
• the 2.0-litre EW10 J4 S engine for Sport variants had variable valve timing for the intake camshaft and a compression ratio of 10.8:1.

While the Dynamique variants were available with either five-speed BE4 manual or four-speed AL4 automatic transmissions (the latter with a sequential shift function and adaptive behaviour), Sport variants were solely available with the manual transmission.

Dimensions

Compared to the T5 307 hatchback , the T5 307 CC was 147 mm longer (at 4349 mm), 13 mm wider (1759 mm), 57 mm lower (1455 mm) and had a 3 mm shorter wheelbase (2605 mm). The 307 CC’s retractable hardtop roof could be automatically raised or lowered in approximately 25 seconds, via a button located between the front seats and, unlike the 206 CC , there were no latches to release. With the roof up, boot capacity for the 307 CC was 350 litres, though this decreased to 204 litres when the roof was stowed away; a full-size spare tyre was also stored under the boot floor.

Suspension and steering

The 307 CC had MacPherson strut front suspension, a torsion beam rear axle and electrohydraulic variable power steering.

Safety equipment

Standard safety equipment for the 307 CC included dual front airbags, front side airbags (with head protection), ABS, brake assist, electronic brake force distribution, electronic stability control, traction control, automatically deploying rollover hoops, active front seat head restraints, front seatbelts with pretensioners and four seatbelts with force limiters.

Brakes

The 307 CC Dynamique had 283 mm by 26 mm ventilated front brake discs and 247 mm by 9 mm solid rear discs. The 307 CC Sport, however, had 302 mm by 28 mm ventilated front brake discs.

Euro NCAP crash testing

In Euro NCAP crash testing , a left-hand drive 307 CC received a four star adult occupant protection rating with a score of 29.33. In the frontal offset impact, there was a risk of serious knee injuries for the driver from hitting the steering column and lock. In the side impact test, the front side airbags provided good protection, although the driver’s chest contacted the seat wing and airbag, giving a slightly higher loading than for the rest of the driver’s body.

Features

Standard features for the 307 CC Dynamique included 16-inch ‘Ariane’ alloy wheels, a six speaker Clarion sound system with a CD player, climate control air conditioning, cruise control, a cooled glovebox, front and rear fog lights, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearshift, steering wheel audio controls, remote central locking, power windows and heated mirrors, tilt and telescopic steering wheel adjustment, height adjustable front seats, a trip computer and an immobiliser.

Beyond this, the 307 CC Sport was further equipped with 17-inch ‘Challenger’ alloy wheels, a six-stack CD player, rear parking sensors, honeycomb fabric seats with leather surrounds and power retracting mirrors.

Review: Peugeot T6 307 CC (2005-09)

Overview

Released in October 2005, the Peugeot T6 307 CC introduced lower prices, revised styling changes and improved equipment levels. The Sport edition continued to be offered, though the Dynamique was renamed Dynamic and its engine received a slight power increase.

Visually, the T6 307 CC could be identified by its gaping front grille, elliptical headlights and integrated driving lights. Inside, the interior was also revised and there was a new multi-function display.

Features

Standard features for the T6 307 CC were extended to include dual-zone climate control air conditioning and driver’s seat memory settings. The Dynamic received 17-inch alloy wheels and height adjustable front seats, while the Sport received a five-disc CD player, xenon headlights, tyre pressure monitoring, deadlocking and an alarm system as standard.
