Released in January 2004, the Holden XC.II Barina introduced a new 1.4-litre engine and a subtle facelift. The manual SXi and CD variants were fitted with a new ‘Twinport’ 1.4-litre engine which produced peak power and torque of 66kW at 5600rpm and 125Nm at 4000rpm; automatic models, however, continued with the ‘Ecotec’ engine. The Holden XC.II Barina could be identified by its trapezoidal chrome grille and body-coloured door handles (new for the SXi and CD); the SRi and CD were also fitted with dark-tinted tail lamps and the Barina SRi received projector-style headlamps.
