Released in July 2001, the Mercedes-Benz W168 Series II (W168.II) A-Class introduced a revised range, upgraded safety equipment and additional features. The A 140 was discontinued and, in November 2001, long wheelbase models were introduced. The W168.II A-Class could be identified by its clear glass headlights, new contoured bumper, extended lower air intake, radiator grille with four transverse fins (previously three), side rub strips, more angular front end and transparent lenses. Inside, the interior featured higher quality materials and a revised instrument panel and centre console.
