Released in April 2000, the Nissan GU Series II (GU.II) Patrol wagon introduced a new engine, with the 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine replaced by a more powerful 3.0-litre unit. The Nissan GU.II Patrol could be identified by its restyled front grille; there were also changes to safety equipment, new front seats, headrests and seat material for the DX and ST variants.

Released in October 2001, the Nissan GU Series III (GU.III) Patrol introduced a new engine, with a 4.8-litre petrol inline six-cylinder engine replacing its 4.5-litre predecessor. The Nissan GU.III Patrol wagon could be identified by its new grille, headlights, taillights and bumpers. In August 2003, the GU.III Patrol range was expanded with the ST-L variant, positioned above the ST but below the Ti.
