Released in June 1998, the Saab Mk.1 9-3 was available as a three- or five-door liftback. Manufactured in Trollhattan, Sweden, the front-wheel drive 9-3 range initially consisted of naturally aspirated and turbocharged four-cylinder engines with the 2.0, 2.3, 2.0t and 2.0T variants. In December 1998, however, the 2.0 and 2.3 variants were discontinued, leaving an all turbocharged line-up. Beyond the engine-based variants, the 9-3 range consisted of S and SE editions.
