Review: Maserati Mk.I 430 (1989-91)

Overview

Released in Australia in October 1989, the Maserati Mk.I 430 was a rear-wheel drive, luxury sedan. Manufactured in Modena, Italy, the 430 was powered by a 2.8-litre V6 petrol engine with two IHI turbochargers and air-to-air intercoolers, three valves per cylinder and twin overhead camshafts. The 430 was fitted with a five-speed manual transmission as standard, though a four-speed automatic transmission could also be ordered.

Replacing the Maserati 425i , the 430 was 4400 mm long, 1730 mm wide, 1370 mm tall and had a 2600 mm long wheelbase.  The 430’s front suspension consisted of MacPherson struts with dual-rate telescopic dampers, coil springs and an anti-roll bar. At the rear, the 430 had semi-trailing arms, coil springs and dual-rate Bilstein telescopic dampers. Furthermore, active electronic damping was an extra-cost option.

The 430 was replaced in 1994 by the Mk.IV Quattroporte.
