Recalls & faults: Alfa Romeo Giulia (2016-on)

Recalls: Alfa Romeo Giulia

Overview

Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.

Recalls: Alfa Romeo Giulia

2016-19 Alfa Romeo Giulia: Adaptive Cruise Control may not deactivate

In March 2019, recall campaign 8238 was issued for Alfa Romeo Giulia vehicles that had Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) were available for sale in Australia from 1 November 2016 to 4 March 2019. In specific driving conditions, it may not be possible to cancel the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). As such, the vehicle may continue accelerate notwithstanding that the driver had applied the brakes – this posed a hazard to vehicle occupants and other road users. To fix, the vehicle was to have its ACC software updated. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see PRA 2019/17415.

2017-19 Alfa Romeo Giulia: inaccurate fuel reading

In August 2019, recall campaign 8242 was issued for Alfa Romeo Giulia vehicles that were available for sale from 20 January 2017 to 29 July 2019. In these vehicles, the instrument panel may show more fuel than what is actually present in the fuel tank. If the vehicle were to run out of fuel, the engine would shut down – this would increase the risk of a collision and pose a hazard to vehicle occupants and other road users. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see PRA 2019/17721.

2020-21 Alfa Romeo Giulia: fuel sensor housing may crack

In January 2022, recall campaign 6396 was issued for 2020-21 Alfa Romeo Giulia vehicles. Due to a manufacturing issue, the fuel sensor housing may crack and cause a fuel leak. If a fuel leak occurred, it could result in a loss of motive power while driving. Separately, if fuel came into contact with an ignition source, it may result in a vehicle fire. These circumstances could increase the risk of a collision, injury or damage to property. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-005038.

2020-22 Alfa Romeo Giulia: Adaptive Light System sensors

In April 2022, recall campaign 6439 was issued for 2020-22 Alfa Romeo Giulia vehicles. Due to a manufacturing issue, teh automatic Adaptive Light System (AFS) sensors may not adjust as intended when there was a change in load or load distribution on the vehicle. If the vehicle headlights did not operate as intended, it could increase the risk of a collision and, therefore, the risk of injury to vehicle occupants and other road users. To fix, the automatic headlight position sensors were to be recalibrated and headlights aligned. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-005416.

2016-20 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio: electronic parking brake malfunction

In July 2023, recall campaign 6637 was issued for 2016-20 Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio vehicles. Vehicles equipped with carbon ceramic-matrix brakes may have an independent electronic parking brake with a roll away prevention feature which – in extreme circumstances – could put excessive pressure on the brake rotor. This could damage the brake rotor and cause an unexpected reduction in braking performance, thereby increasing the risk of a collision and injury to vehicle occupants and/or other road users. To fix, the vehicle’s software was to be updated (at no cost). For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-005707.
