Overview

Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.

Pre-2017 Audi 8S TTS Roadster: Takata airbag recall

In September 2018, recall campaign 69S8 was issued for Audi 8S TTS Roadsters that were available for sale in Australia prior to 31 December 2017. Due to high temperatures and humidity, the airbag inflator propellant in the driver’s airbag could degrade over time. In the event of a collision which triggered the airbag, excessive internal pressure could cause the metal airbag inflator housing to explode or rupture, projecting metal fragments through the airbag cushion towards vehicle occupants – these metal fragments posed a risk of serious injury or fatality. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see PRA 2018/17035.

2014-19 Audi 8S TTS Roadster quattro: bracket could damage fuel tank

In August 2020, recall campaign 20BX was issued for Audi 8S TTS Roadster quattro vehicles that were manufactured between October 2014 and May 2019. If the vehicle was involved in a collision, a bracket fitted on the vehicle body could collide with fuel tank and damage the fuel tank. If the fuel tank was damaged, fuel could leak and if the fuel came into contact with a hot surface, it could ignite – this posed a risk of serious injury and death to vehicle occupants, road users and bystanders. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see PRA 2020/18401.

2023 Audi 8S TTS Roadster: front passenger airbag may not deploy as intended

In August 2023, recall campaign 70J2 was issued for 2023 Audi 8S TTS Roadster vehicles. In these vehicles, the welding connection joining the airbag guide channel and the dash panel of the front passenger’s side may not meet manufacturing specifications. As a result, the front passenger airbag may not deploy as intended. In the event of a collision, the airbag not deploying as intended could increase the risk of injury to vehicle occupants. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-005769.
