Recalls: Bentley 4V Bentayga
Overview
Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.
Recalls: Bentley 4V Bentayga
Bentley Bentayga: loose bolted joints for seats and instrument panel
In November 2016, a recall was issued for Bentley Bentayga vehicles that were available for sale in Australia prior to 15 November 2016. In these vehicles, bolted joints relating to the seat system and the instrument panel may not have been correctly tightened. If these joints had not been correctly tightened, they could loosen over time; in the event of a collision, this could increase the risk of injury for the vehicle occupants. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see PRA 2016/15759.
2017-20 Bentley Bentayga (7 seats): third-row seatbelts could detach
In May 2020, recall campaign RE20/06 (RB48) was issued for Bentley Bentayga vehicles that were available in Australia from 13 March 2017 to 20 January 2020 and had seven seats. In these vehicles, the seatbelt anchorage on the third row of seats may not withstand the legal load requirements such that the seatbelt could detach from the pillar. If the anchorage failed to function in the event of a collision, occupants wearing the seatbelts may not be properly restrained; this could cause serious injury or death to vehicle occupants. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see PRA 2020/18259.
2018-19 Bentley 4V Bentayga V8: fuel leak and fire hazard
In July 2020, recall campaign RE20/14 (RB56) was issued for Bentley Bentayga V8 vehicles that were available for sale in Australia from 6 March 2018 to 18 December 2019. Due to the weakness of a component in the ‘quick connector’ on the fuel supply line, fuel may leak at very high engine compartment temperatures. In the presence of an ignition source, the fuel could ignite and the subsequent fire posed a risk of serious injury to vehicle occupants and other persons, and a risk of damage to property. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see PRA 2020/18364.
2021 Bentley Bentayga: delayed ESC operation
In September 2021, recall campaign RE21/29 (RC11) was issued for 2021 Bentley Bentayga vehicles that had V8 engines and passive anti-roll bars. Due to incorrect software parameters within the Chassis Control Module, there may be a delay in the intervention of the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system – this could result in a loss of vehicle control, thereby increasing the risk of a collision. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-001704.
2020-22 Bentley Bentayga: rear seats may not be secure
In April 2022, recall campaign RE22/10(RC36) was issued for 2020-22 Bentley Bentayga vehicles that had five seats. Due to improper assembly during production, the rear seat runners may not be correctly aligned/locked to the seat frame rails. As a result, the seats may not lock in place and may move inadvertently. In the event of a collision or hard braking, movement of the rear seats increased the risk of injury to vehicle occupants. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-005398.
2015-23 Bentley Bentayga W12: wiring harness in fuel tank could overheat
In August 2023, recall campaign RE23/19 (RC84) was issued for 2015-23 Bentley Bentayga W12 vehicles. Due to a design defect, the wiring harness within the fuel tank may overheat and melt the fuel inlet flange material. This could cause a fuel leak which, if exposed to an external ignition source, could result in a vehicle fire. A vehicle fire posed a risk of injury to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders, and damage to property. If the relevant warning lamp illuminated in the instrument cluster or the smell of fuel was noticed around the vehicle (e.g. after filling the fuel tank with petrol), then owners should contact their local Bentley dealer immediately. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-005762.
