Recalls: Chrysler PL2000 Neon

Overview

Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.

Recalls: Chrysler PL2000 Neon

  • In May 2002, a recall was issued for Chrysler PL2000 Neon vehicles which may have been fitted with a particular type of front brake pad. For these vehicles, the brake pad friction blocks may separate from its backing plate, thereby compromising overall braking efficiency (PRA 2002/5403).
  • In January 2002, a recall was issued for all Chrysler PL2000 Neon vehicles built up to 21 March 2001 and fitted with the 2.0-litre petrol engine. For these vehicles, the brake booster vacuum hose may swell if it came into contact with oil and become dislodged from the engine. If this occurred, a loss of braking power assistance and an increase in engine idle speed could result (PRA 2002/5143).

Problems and faults: Chrysler PL2000 Neon

  • Clunking nosies from the air conditioning compressor may be rectified with a new expansion valve.
  • The threads for the antenna may be stripped if someone attempts to tighten it because there is a gap between the antenna and base.
  • Moaning or groaning noises from the power steering system may be caused by low fluid levels; a revised cap/dipstick was released to increase the fluid level in the reservoir.
  • Snapping noises from the front suspension, particularly on rough roads, are often due to loose front cross-member mounting bolts.
  • Leaves and debris could enter the plenum and rub on the air conditioning fan/blower cage, creating noise when the motor was running. Installing seals near the bonnet hinges and screens in the cowl could keep debris out.
