Recalls & faults: Citroën C4 Cactus (2015-18)

Recalls: Citroën C4 Cactus

Overview

Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.

2016 Citroën C4 Cactus: unwanted starter activation

In April 2017, a recall was issued for Citroën C4 Cactus vehicles that were available for sale in Australia from 1 September 2016 to 30 September 2016. In these vehicles, a ‘non-compliance’ of an electrical relay’s internal component may disrupt the starter control. This could cause an unwanted starter activation such that the vehicle could move if a gear was engaged; it could also cause the vehicle to overheat, posing a fire risk. For the VINs of the recalled Citroën C4 Cactus vehicles, please see PRA 2017/16026.

2015-17 Citroën C4 Cactus: bonnet may open while vehicle is being driven

In November 2017, a recall was issued for Citroën C4 Cactus vehicles that were available for sale from 2 November 2015 to 29 April 2017. In these vehicles, the striker wire support on the bonnet lining may not be sufficiently secure – this could allow the bonnet to open while the vehicle was being driven. If the bonnet opened while the vehicle was being driven, it could obstruct the driver’s vision and increase the risk of a collision. For the VINs of the recalled Citroën C4 Cactus vehicles, please see PRA 2017/16425.

2015-17 Citroën C4 Cactus: loss of power braking

In April 2021, recall campaign HFC was issued for Citroën C4 Cactus vehicles that were available for sale in Australia from 1 July 2015 to 28 February 2017. In these vehicles, ageing of the engine oil could cause material to detach from the timing belt and this could affect operation of the brake vacuum pump. If left unrepaired, this condition may result in a reduction or loss of braking performance – this could increase the risk of a collision and injury to vehicle occupants and/or other road users. To fix, a software update was to be applied which improved the vacuum diagnosis to provide an earlier warning about the risk of loss or reduction of braking assistance. Furthermore, the timing belt would be checked and, if needed, replaced with other components of the braking assistance system and the vacuum pump. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see PRA 2021/18808.

2017-18 Citroën C4 Cactus: ageing oil could affect timing belt and brake vacuum pump

In May 2023, recall campaign HLX was issued for 2017-18 Citroën C4 Cactus vehicles.
