Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.

Recalls: Ford Mk.4 Focus

2018-19 Ford Focus: engine wiring loom chafing

In September 2020, recall campaign 19S50 was issued for Ford Mk.4 Focus vehicles that were manufactured from 28 September 2018 through 22 May 2019. In these vehicles, a transmission stud may chafe on the engine wiring loom and this could cause the engine warning light to illuminate. Damage to the engine wiring loom could cause reduced engine power and/or the engine to stall – this increased the risk of a collision and injury to vehicle occupants and other road users. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see PRA 2020/18538.

2018-19 Ford Mk.4 Focus: engine wiring loom chafing #2

In May 2021, recall campaign 20S74 was issued for Ford Mk.4 Focus vehicles that were manufactured between 28 September 2018 and 16 May 2019. In these vehicles, the transmission stud may chafe on the engine wiring loom – this could cause a reduction or loss of engine power, and engine stall; the engine warning light may also illuminate. These circumstances increased the risk of injury to vehicle occupants and other road users. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see PRA 2021/18939.

2019-22 Ford Focus: oil leak from oil separator

In May 2022, recall campaign 22S21 was issued for the 2019-22 Ford Focus vehicles. Due to a manufacturing issue, the right-hand engine oil separator may have been damaged prior to engine assembly. This condition could result in an oil leak and, in the presence of an ignition source, a vehicle fire; this posed a risk of injury to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders. If an oil leak occurred, vehicle occupants may identify an oil smoke odour when driving or smoke emanating from under the bonnet. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-005431.

2021 Ford Focus: sunroof frame could detach

In September 2022, recall campaign 22S40 was issued for 2021 Ford Focus vehicles produced between 16th September 2021 and 24th September 2021. Due to a manufacturing issue, the sunroof frame may not have been correctly bonded to the vehicle’s body. As such, the sunroof frame could become loose and detach from the vehicle. This condition increased the risk of a collision, posing a hazard to vehicle occupants, road users and bystanders. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-005522.
