Recalls: Honda KB1/KB2 Legend
Overview
Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.
Recalls: Honda KB1/KB2 Legend
2006-07 Honda KB1/KB2 Legend: power steering fluid leak
In December 2007, a recall was issued for Honda KB1 Legend models due to potential fluid loss from a power steering feed hose. The fluid loss was caused by high heat deterioration of the hose and could result in increased steering effort, smoke from fluid contacting hot exhaust components and, potentially, fire (PRA 2007/9697).
2007 Honda KB1 Legend: potential brake fluid leak
In October 2010, a recall was issued for 2007 Honda KB1 Legend models due to the rubber seal portion at the rear end of the brake master cylinder potentially turning and causing brake fluid to leak and the warning light to be illuminated; the defect may also cause a reduction in the force applied under braking. The recalled Honda Legend vehicles had VINs in the range JHMKB1/KB26507C200040 to JHMKB1/KB26507C204774 (PRA 2010/12093).
2007-12 model year Honda KB1/KB2 Legend: Takata airbag recall
In February 2016, a recall was issued for 2007 to 2012 model year Honda KB1 and KB2 Legend vehicles and this recall was updated in September 2017 with new information. In these vehicles, propellant tablets in some air bag inflators may absorb moisture – this could create excessive internal pressure when the airbag was deployed such that the body of the inflator could rupture upon deployment, increasing the risk of injury to the driver and other occupants. For the VINs of the recalled Honda Legend vehicles, please seePRA 2016/15198.
2007-11 model year Honda KB1/KB2 Legend: Takata airbag recall
In July 2016, a recall was issued for 2007 to 2011 model year Honda Legend vehicles and this recall was updated with new information in September 2017. In these vehicles, propellant wafers in the airbag inflators could absorb moisture over time and cause overly aggressive combustion if the airbag was deployed. This, in turn, would create excessive internal pressure that could cause the airbag inflator housing to rupture and scatter metal fragments through the airbag cushion material; these scattered fragments could cause serious and potentially fatal injuries to vehicle occupants. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please seePRA 2016/15495.
2012 model year Honda KB2 Legend: Takata airbag recall
In January 2017, a recall was issued for 2012 model year Honda Legend vehicles and this recall was updated with new information in September 2017. In these vehicles, propellant wafers within the front passenger airbag were susceptible to moisture intrusion over time. In the event of an airbag deployment, this could cause overly aggressive combustion of the airbag such that the airbag inflator housing could rupture. If this occurred, metal fragments could pass through the airbag cushion material and scatter throughout the cabin, posing a risk of serious injury or fatality to vehicle occupants. For the VINs of the recalled Honda KB2 Legend vehicles, please seePRA 2017/15857.

Problems and faults: Honda KB1/KB2 Legend
- The Honda Legend’s audio system may cease working – this may be fixed by ‘rebooting’ the system by removing the No. 2 fuse for at least one minute.
- The Lgeend’s brake pedal may feel spongy or have excessive travel due to air in the brake lines – this requires the Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) modulator to be replaced.
- Squealing noises from the rear brakes may be fixed by replacing the brake pads with revised units.
- The ‘check engine’ light may illuminate and provide a code which indicates a problem with the oxygen sensor when the low state of charge for the battery is the root problem.
- The ‘check engine’ light may illuminate due to carbon buildup on the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve caused by the fuel injectors spraying the EGR valve with fuel; this requires the EGR valve and fuel injectors to be replaced.
- On hot days, the engine may stall due to vapour lock (i.e. liquid fuel changes to gas while still in the fuel delivery system); this problem requires an improved fuel pump to be installed.
- Rattling noises from the front suspension when driving on rough roads may be due to poor anti-rattle springs.
- Over time, transmission fluid leaks may develop at the banjo bolt fittings, requiring the sealing washers to be replaced.
