Recalls: HSV VS Senator

Overview

Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.

  • In July 1995, a recall was issued for 1995 Holden VS and related HSV models that were manufactured on April 10, 11 and 18; these vehicles were fitted with suspect front suspension strut-to-knuckle attaching bolts which could break under certain conditions (PRA 1995/2497).
  • In October 1995, a recall as issued for VS Commodore and related HSV models fitted with cruise control – in these vehicles, the throttle cable attaching nuts may work loose when cruise control is engaged (PRA 1995/2614).
  • In January 1996, a recall was issued for Holden VS models due to a cooler hose clamp which may not provide sufficient clamp load and may therefore dislodge from the fitting (PRA 1996/2701).
  • In July 1997, a recall was issued for Holden VS Series II vehicles that were built between 30 June 1997 and 16 July 1997. In these vehicles, some steering gears may have been assembled with an incorrectly hardened rack bar – this could result in steering failure (PRA 1997/3239).
