Recalls: Hummer H3

Overview

Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.

Recalls: Hummer H3

  • In July 2010, a recall was issued for Hummer H3 vehicles because the integral clip-tabs on the bonnet louvres could break and cause the louvres to rattle against the hood. If this went unnoticed and additional clips fractured, the louvres could detach from the vehicle (PRA 2010/11815).
  • In July 2011, a recall was issued for Hummer H3 vehicles manufactured from 2007 and 2009 and with VINs in the range ADMDN13E # # 4379990 to ADMEN13E # # 4484566. For these vehicles, if a trailer was towed, the front and rear indicator lights may not warn the driver that a bulb was not operating (PRA 2011/12737).
  • In July 2015, a recall was issued for Hummer H3 vehicles that were manufactured from 7 March 2007 to 3 December 2008. In these vehicles, the wiring connection system for the cabin fan may produce high levels of heat when used for extended periods at medium and high blower speeds. Excessive heat in the connector may cause it to melt and pose a fire hazard, presenting a risk of injury to vehicle occupants. The recalled Hummer H3 vehicles had VINs in the range ADMDN13E774379990 to ADMEN13E594484566 (PRA 2015/14798).

Problems and faults: Hummer H3

  • The Hummer H3’s ‘check engine’ light may illuminate and the engine may operate at reduced power if the vehicle was started with a weak battery.
  • Coolant leaks from the reservoir when the vehicle is driven off-road – or at increased angles – require the reservoir to be replaced with a revised component.
  • There may be background noise from the speakers when using an MP3 player and the power outlet; if so, a ground loop isolator is required between the device and the power outlet.
  • The tail-light housing may come loose and require a redesigned retainer.
  • If the airbag warning light stays on, a seatbelt tension sensor in the front seatbelt retractor assembly may be faulty.
