2001-03 Hyundai Tiburon: brake fluid leak

In September 2003, a recall was issued for Hyundai Tiburon models produced from 1 April 2001 to 15 February 2003 due to a condition in which the brake pipes may rub on the front sub-frame – this could cause the pipes to wear and leak brake fluid, potentially causing the service brake to fail (PRA 2003/6473).

2002-03 Hyundai GK Tiburon: incorrect suspension metallurgy

In 2010, Hyundai UK issued a ‘non-code action’ for Hyundai Coupe/Tiburon vehicles that were manufactured from 1 January 2002 to 27 May 2003 because the suspension metallurgy could be incorrect (NCA/2010/022).

Hyundai GK Tiburon: harsh, late or erratic gearhisfts

For Hyundai GK Tiburon vehicles with automatic transmissions, there was a software update to correct harsh or late gearshifts, but this and other faults such as erratic shifts and entering into failsafe mode may be due to a faulty engine/powertrain control module or a short-circuited wiring harness. Furthermore, the transmission may not work in regular mode but work in sport mode, or vice versa, due to a problem in switch box.

Hyundai GK Tiburon: ‘low tyre pressure’ warning

The Hyundai Tiburon’s ‘low tyre pressure’ warning light may illuminate due to electromagnetic interference from electronic transmitters, but will usually go out when moving out of range. However, some electronic devices may also activate the warning light if they are plugged into the accessory power outlet.

Problems and faults: Hyundai GK Tiburon

  • When first started in hot weather, the Tiburon’s 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine may have a rough idle or hesitate around 4000 rpm; if so, the powertrain control module (PCM) may need to be re-programmed.
  • Oil leaks at the differential may be repaired by replacing the oil seal with a redesigned part. Furthermore, oil may leak from the transaxle at the oil seals, yet appear to be a seam leak.
  • Where fitted, the sunroof may leak at the rear such that water can travel down the C-pillar, enter and short out the sound system amplifier. On some early models, the sunroof could cease to operate, requiring the motor and controller to be replaced.
