Recalls: Hyundai TL Tucson
Overview
Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.

2016 Hyundai Tucson: secondary bonnet safety latch
In July 2016, a recall was issued for Hyundai TL and TLe Tucson vehicles because the bonnet’s secondary safety latch could become unlatched when the vehicle was in motion. In certain conditions, the bonnet could therefore lift suddenly and block the driver’s view of the road ahead. The recalled Hyundai Tucson vehicles had VINs in the following ranges (PRA 2016/15504):
- Hyundai TL Tucson: KMHJ*81***U000324 ~ KMHJ*81***U208048; and,
- Hyundai TLe Tucson: TMAJ3****GJ000050 ~ TMAJ3****GJ168155.
2014-20 Hyundai TL Tucson: ABS module short circuit
In February 2021, recall campaign 01D072 was issued for Hyundai TL Tucson vehicles that were available for sale in Australia from 1 November 2014 to 30 November 2020. Due to a manufacturing error, an electronic control circuit board in the Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) module could short circuit when the components were exposed to moisture. An electrical short circuit posed a risk of an engine compartment fire, even when the vehicle was turned off, since the circuit was constantly powered. This condition increased the risk of a collision or injury to vehicle occupants, road users and bystanders, and/or damage to property. To fix, a relay kit was to be installed on the circuit board to prevent any power surge and eliminate the risk of fire. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see PRA 2021/18794.
2017-18 Hyundai TL Tucson 2.0 DSL: Heater Core could overheat and cause fire
In June 2022, recall campaign 21D027 was issued for 2017-18 Hyundai TL Tucson 2.0 DSL vehicles. Due to a faulty electrical connection (a manufacturing issue), the connector to the Heater Core may overheat. This condition could cause excess heat in the connection and a vehicle fire. A vehicle fire increased the risk of a collision and injury to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-005458.
2014-17 Hyundai TL Tucson 2.0 MPI: engine connecting rod bearing may fail
In July 2023, recall campaign 21D150 was issued for 2014-17 Hyundai TL Tucson 2.0 MPI vehicles. Due to a manufacturing defect, the engine connecting rod bearing could fail prematurely – this could cause engine damage and an engine oil leak. In the presence of an ignition source, a fire may occur and this would pose a risk of injury to vehicle occupants, road users and bystanders, and a risk of damage to property. Owners were advised that if the vehicle’s engine made an unusual noise or produced smoke, or if the instrument cluster showed an engine warning light, then the driver should stop the vehicle where safe to do so, turn off the ignition, exit the vehicle and contact their nearest Hyundai dealer immediately. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-005722.
