Recalls: Isuzu RG D-Max

OverviewRecalls are issued for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Manufacturers or importers seek to inform the original buyer if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. However, manufacturers or importers may not have the contact details of subsequent owners. Please note that the recalls below are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.
Recalls: Isuzu RG D-Max
2020-21 Isuzu RG D-Max Crew Cab: rear seatbelt pretensioner
In December 2020, recall campaign S202042 was issued for 2020-21 Isuzu RG D-Max Crew Cab vehicles. In these vehicles, the rear seatbelt pretensioner locking tab may be defective such that it would not tension properly. If the pretensioner wiring harness connector locked incorrectly, it may not fully tension the seatbelt in the event of a collision – this could increase the risk of injury. 2020-21 Isuzu RG D-Max X-Terrain: tonneau front cover may detach while driving
In July 2022, recall campaign S202209 was issued for 2020-21 Isuzu RG D-Max X-Terrain vehicles. Due to a manufacturing issue, the roller tonneau front cover screws may become loose and fall out. If this occurred, the tonneau front cover may detach from the vehicle while driving – this could increase the risk of a collision and injury to vehicle occupants, road users and/or bystanders. 2020-22 Isuzu RG D-Max: potential loss of steering
In March 2023, recall campaign S202301 was issued for 2020-22 Isuzu RG D-Max vehicles. Due to a manufacturing issue, the lower steering shaft attaching bolt may have a torque value lower than the required specification. As a result, the lower steering shaft attaching bolt may lose tension over time, causing it to dislodge. If this occurred while the vehicle was being driven, it would cause a loss of steering – this increased the risks of a collision and injury for the driver, occupants and other road users. 2021-23 Isuzu RG D-Max: fuel hose could chafe and leak
In November 2023, recall campaign S202308 was issued for 2021-23 Isuzu RG D-Max vehicles. Due to a manufacturing issue, the fuel hose may chafe against the engine oil level bracket and become damaged. If this occurred, fuel may leak and, in the presence fo an external ignition source, could ignite and cause a vehicle fire. Such a fire posed a risk of injury to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders, and a risk of damage to property. To fix, an Isuzu Ute dealer was to replace the fuel hose and retaining clips. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-005842.
2020-24 Isuzu RG D-Max: ECM update to prevent engine stalling
In August 2024, recall campaign S202408 was issued for 2020-24 Isuzu RG D-Max vehicles. Due to a software issue, the Engine Control Module (ECM) may incorrectly reduce the engine’s speed. This could cause the engine to stall and the driver to experience a loss of drive, which would increase the risk of a collision and injury to both vehicle occupants and other road users. 2020-23 Isuzu RG D-Max: incorrectly installed fuel hose could leak fuel
In August 2024, recall campaign S202409 was issued for 2020-23 Isuzu RG D-Max vehicles. In these vehicles, the fuel delivery hose may have been installed incorrectly and could contact the engine oil level gauge bracket. This could cause premature wear to the fuel delivery hose and a fuel leak – in the presence of an external ignition source, the fuel could ignite. A vehicle fire posed a risk of injury to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders, a a risk of damage to property.
