Recalls: Jeep Compass

Overview

Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.

2018 Jeep M6 Compass: engine may stall while driving

In August 2018, recall campaign U87 was issued for 2018 Jeep M6 Compass vehicles. In these vehicles, the powertrain control module could fail and this could cause:

  • The vehicle not to start;
  • The vehicle to start and then stall immediately; or
  • The engine to stall while the vehicle was being driven.

If the latter occurred, the vehicle would pose a collision risk to vehicle occupants and other road users. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see PRA 2018/16976.

2018 Jeep M6 Compass: cruise control could lock speed or cause acceleration

In August 2018, recall campaign U66 was issued for 2018 Jeep M6 Compass vehicles. In these vehicles, a fault in the Power Control Module (PCM) software could affect the cruise control system – this could cause vehicle speed to lock or unexpected acceleration. If the driver did not shift to neutral or apply the brakes to stop the vehicle, the vehicle would pose a collision risk. For the VINs of the recalled Jeep M6 Compass vehicles, please see PRA 2018/16977.

2017-23 Jeep Compass: incorrect towing capacity labels

In May 2023, recall campaign 31A was issued for 2017-23 Jeep Compass vehicles. In these vehicles, the towing capacity labels on the driver’s side door and tow bar did not match the approved maximum capacities listed in the owner’s manual. If the driver attempted to tow a load higher than the approved maximum, this could result in a serious accident to the vehicle occupants or other road users that could, in turn, cause injury. To fix, the Chrysler Jeep Dodge (CJD) dealer was to remove the non-compliant labels and affix new replacement labels showing the correct specifications. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-005646.
