Recalls: Jeep JL Wrangler
Overview
Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.
Recalls: Jeep JL Wrangler
2018-19 Jeep JL Wrangler: steering shaft could bind
In March 2019, recall campaign V26 was issued for Jeep JL Wrangler vehicles that were available for sale in Australia from 1 November 2018 to 1 March 2019. These vehicles may have had foreign debris inside the steering shaft rubber boot. This condition could cause binding of the steering shaft and, in turn, a loss of steering control – these circumstances posed a risk of injury and fatality for vehicle occupants and other road users. 2017-19 Jeep JL Wrangler: battery cable could contact the catalytic converter
In January 2020, recall campaign V78 was issued for 2017-19 Jeep JL Wrangler vehicles that were available for sale in Australia from 1 June 2017 to 11 December 2019. In these vehicles, the transmission harness may have insufficient clearance to the catalytic converter. If the battery cable came into contact with the catalytic converter, the following could occur:
- A vehicle fire; and/or
- Safety systems could be disabled and this may lead to the engine stalling.
These increased the risk of a collision, posing a hazard to vehicle occupants and other road users. To fix, the transmission wiring harness was to be replaced. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see PRA 2019/18026.
