Recalls: Jeep ZG Grand Cherokee
Overview
Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.
Recalls: Jeep ZG Grand Cherokee
- In April 1997, a recall was issued for 1996 model year Jeep ZG Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured prior to 30 April 1996 and fitted with power adjustable driver’s seats with memory settings. In these vehicles, the wiring harness could come into contact with the driver’s seat cushion flex mat, causing a short circuit (PRA 1997/3166).
- In September 1998, a recall was issued for 1997 and 1998 Jeep ZG Grand Cherokee models due to the fuel gauge displaying an inaccurate fuel level, caused by failure of the fuel tanking sending unit (PRA 1998/3638).
- In July 1997, a recall was issued for Jeep ZG Grand Cherokee vehicles due to the airbag control module potentially causing inadvertent deployment of the airbag during a three second period after the ignition was switched off (PRA 1997/3229).
- In August 2014, a recall was issued for ZG Grand Cherokee vehicles that were manufactured from 1993 to 1998. As a result of low speed collisions, fuel may leak from the fuel tank for these vehicles. In the presence of an ignition source, the leaking fuel may result in an underbody fire (PRA 2014/14239).

Problems and faults: Jeep ZG Grand Cherokee
- For some Jeep ZG Grand Cherokee models, it is understood that the caster alignment did not meet specifications and the steering wheel tended to pull to one side. To fix, offset ball joints which allowed for adjustments to caster, camber and toe could be fitted.
