Recalls: Kia XM Sorento

Overview

Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.

Recalls: Kia XM Sorento

2009-10 Kia XM Sorento: door wiring could short circuit

In September 2010, a recall was issued for Kia XM Sorento models manufactured from September 2009 to June 2010 due to a design flaw with the wiring to the door trim illumination potentially shorting and causing heat damage (PRA 2010/11978). The recalled vehicles were in the following VIN ranges:

  • KNAKU813MA5050763 to KNAKU813MA5050767; and,
  • KNAKU814SA5026243 to KNAKU814SA5108829.

2011 model year Kia XM Sorento Diesel: potential leak from fuel feed hose

In August 2017, a recall was issued for 2011 model year Kia XM Sorento vehicles that had Euro 5 emissions compliant ‘R’ diesel engines. In these vehicles, the fuel feed hose may exhibit premature deterioration of its fatigue-resistance and oil-proofing properties. As such, the fuel feed hose may leak – this could pose a hazard to road users and a fire hazard. For the VINs of the recalled Kia XM Sorento vehicles, please see PRA 2017/16224.

2011 Kia XM Sorento Diesel: fuel feed hose replacement

Kia Motors issued Technical Service Bulletin KCE13-14-P160-SLXMVQ for Kia XM Sorento vehicles that:

  • had ‘R’ diesel engines;
  • were manufactured from 29 August 2011 to 29 December 2011; and,
  • had VINs in the range KNAKT814BC5240407 to KNAKU815CC5254035.

According to the service bulletin, the fuel feed hose for early Kia XM Sorento vehicles could deteriorate prematurely. For greater durability, an improved fuel feed hose (part number 314552F060QQK) was to be fitted as a replacement.

2011 Kia XM Sorento Diesel: rough idle

In January 2012, Kia Motors issued Technical Service Bulletin KCE11-11-P270-XM for Kia XM Sorento vehicles that had ‘R’ diesel engines and were manufactured from 2 June 2011 to 28 September 2011. According to the service bulletin, the engine may exhibit a rough idle because of a poor glow relay. If the diagnostic troubles codes (DTCs) P0684 or P0670 were present, then the glow relay and glow plugs were to be replaced; if not present, only the glow relay was to be replaced.

2011 Kia XM Sorento Diesel: noise from crankshaft damper pulley

In September 2011, Kia Motors issued Technical Service Bulletin KCE11-12-P200-XM for Kia XM Sorento vehicles that:

  • Had 2.0- or 2.2-litre ‘R’ diesel engines; and,
  • Were manufactured from 21 June 2011 to 4 July 2011;

According to the service bulletin, these vehicles may make an abnormal noise from the crankshaft damper pulley. To fix, the damper pulley and crankshaft bolt were to be replaced with new items.

2009-11 Kia XM Sorento: shock when shifting gear

In October 2012, Kia Motors issued Technical Service Bulletin KCE12-52-P150-XM for Kia XM Sorento vehicles that:

  • had six-speed automatic transmissions; and,
  • were manufactured from 20 April 2009 to 28 February 2011.

According to the service bulletin, these Kia Sorento vehicles may experience shock when shifting gear; diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0705 – Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction – may also be logged. To fix, an inhibitor switch bracket was to be fitted to the inhibitor switch.

2009-13 Kia XM Sorento: creaking from suspension

In May 2014, Kia Motors issued service bulletin 042 for Kia XM Sorento vehicles that were manufactured from 26 October 2009 to 21 January 2013. In these vehicles, a creaking noise may be heard from the front of the vehicle when the steering wheel is turned quickly while the vehicle is travelling at slow speeds. The service bulletin attributed this noise to corrosion of the front strut bearing due to water or debris ingress and was more commonly found in areas where roads salt was applied to the roads for de-icing. To fix, the front strut bearings were to be replaced with an upgraded design (part no. 54609 2P500FFF).

Kia XM Sorento: steering wheel noise

In February 2012, Kia Motors issued Technical Service Bulletin KCE11-61-P080-AMHM for Kia XM Sorento vehicles. According to the bulletin, these vehicles may make abnormal noises from the steering wheel. To fix, a spring washer in the steering wheel (part number 1360214001QQK) was to be replaced.

2010-11 Kia XM Sorento: update for Audi-Video-Navigation system

In June 2011, Kia issued Technical Service Bulletin KCE11-92-P300-XM for Kia XM Sorento vehicles that were manufactured from 25 June 2010 to 19 July 2011. According to the bulletin, the performance of the Audio-Video-Navigation (AVN) system may cause ‘specific customer concerns’ and the technical bulletin described the process for updating the LG AVN.
