Recalls: Lamborghini Aventador
Overview
Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.
Recalls: Lamborghini Aventador
2012-17 model year Lamborghini Aventador Coupe and Roadster: fire risk
In February 2017, a recall was issued for 2012 to 2017 model year Lamborghini Aventador Coupe and Roadster vehicles. If the fuel tank in these vehicles was overfilled, particular handling conditions could cause fuel to reach the carbon canister. If this occurred, it may stop the EVAP system from managing fuel vapours correctly, potentially allowing them to make contact with hot gases from the engine, especially if a non-approved after-market exhaust system was fitted. If the gases and fuel vapours made contact contact, there was a fire risk. For the VINs of the recalled Lamborghini Aventador vehicles, please see PRA 2017/15895.
Lamborghini Aventador: loss of power steering and braking assistance
In June 2018, a recall was issued for Lamborghini Aventador vehicles because the engine may stall when the accelerator pedal was released, engine speed was below 2000 rpm and the transmission shifted from high to low gears. If the engine switched off in these circumstances, the functionality of the servo steering and brake booster would be compromised, thereby increasing the risk of a collision. For the VINs of the recalled Lamborghini Aventador vehicles, please see PRA 2018/16841.
2017-18 Lamborghini Aventador: engine may stall
In October 2019, recall campaign L73XR0219 was issued for Lamborghini Aventador S Coupe and Aventador S Roadster vehicles that were available for sale in Australia from 15 April 2017 to 31 December 2018. Due to a software fault, the vehicle may not maintain the minimum idle speed required to keep the engine running when idling. If the engine did not maintain the minimum idle speed, the vehicle may stall and this increased the risk of a collision or injury to vehicle occupants and other road users. It was, however, still possible to restart the engine after the problem occurred. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see PRA 2019/17860.
2018-20 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Coupe and SVJ 63: bonnet hinges
In April 2021, recall campaign L734-R.01.21 was issued for Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Coupe and SVJ 63 vehicles that were available for sale in Australia from 1 November 2018 to 31 December 2020. In these vehicles, the bonnet hinges may not hold the bonnet closed, such that the bonnet may unlatch and flip open or detach from the vehicle. If these occurred, there was an increased risk of a collision or injury to vehicle occupants and other road users. To fix, the bonnet hinge screws were to be replaced. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see PRA 2021/18880.
