Recalls: Lexus XF20 LS

Overview

Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.

Lexus XF20 LS 400: steering column adjustment

In May 2000, Lexus issued Technical Service Information Bulletin ST003-00 for 1999-00 Lexus LS 400 vehicles. In these vehicles, the tilt/telescopic steering column assembly may emit squeaking noises and/or vibration (groan) during operation. As a result, two production changes were made which could be implemented on affected vehicles:

  • From VIN JT8 BH28F * W0145000, the tilt motor set bolts were changed to improve tilt motor alignment; and,
  • From VIN JT8 BH28F * Y0175592, the tilt motor, telescopic motor and tilt stopper spring were changed.

In January 2007, Lexus issued Technical Service Information Bulletin ST001-04 for 1998 to 2000 model year Lexus XF20 LS 400 vehicles. In these vehicles, the driver may experience steering column noise due to insufficient torsional strength of the telescopic steering column cable. To prevent steering column noise, the cable was to be replaced with a universal joint.
