2017-19 Mazda TC CX-9: communication errors between control modules

In September 2019, recall campaign R201911 was issued for Mazda TC CX-9 vehicles that were available for sale from 16 October 2017 to 6 February 2019. In these vehicles, the wiring harness connectors may have had weak retention force and this could cause communication errors between the vehicle control modules. If the vehicle control modules miscommunicated, the following may occur:

  • False warnings displayed on the instrument cluster;
  • The turn signals (indicators) may not operate as intended;
  • The engine may not be able to be restarted; and/or
  • The front passenger airbag may not deploy as intended in the event of a collision.

For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see PRA 2019/17818.
