Recalls: Mitsubishi BA Grandis

Overview

Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.

Recalls: Mitsubishi BA Grandis

  • In December 2006, a recall was issued for Mitsubishi BA Grandis vehicles manufactured from December 2005 to January 2006. For these vehicles, the lock mechanism of the reclining adjuster fitted to the second row of seats had not undergone heat treatment processing (PRA 2006/8906).
  • In December 2008, a recall was issued for Mitsubishi BA Grandis models manufactured prior to May 2008. For these vehicles, the brake light switch may have been contaminated with silicon grease during installation; this could result in high resistance at the contact point and prevent the brake light from illuminating. The recalled vehicles had VINs in the range JMFLRNA4W4Z000101 to JMFLRNA4W8Z000500 (PRA 2008/10539).
  • In February 2010, a recall was issued for Mitsubishi BA Grandis vehicles due to poor surface plating of the stay welded to the automatic transmission oil feed tube assembly, which could allow corrosion to develop. Furthermore, automatic transmission fluid may leak from the corroded section and, at worst, cause vehicle immobility or an under-bonnet fire (PRA 2010/11425). The recalled vehicles had VINs in the following ranges:
    • JMFLRNA4WAZ000101 to JMFLRNA4WAZ000102; and,
    • JMFLRNA4W9Z000164 to JMFLRNA4W9Z000190.
  • In August 2014, a recall was issued for BA Grandis vehicles that were manufactured from 2004 to 2008. In these vehicles, a crack may develop in the soldering of the printed circuit board (PCB) between the base and the platform for the lighting switch. At worst, a crack in the PCB could cause a temporary continuity failure resulting in a situation where the head lamps and/or turn signal lamps turn off, do not turn on or stay on – this may pose an accident hazard to the driver and other road users. The recalled vehicles had VINs in the range JMF**NA4W**000101 to JMF**NA4W**001040 (PRA 2014/14258).
