Recalls: Mitsubishi UG Nimbus
Overview
Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.
Recalls: Mitsubishi UG Nimbus
- In June 2000, a recall was issued for all Mitsubishi UG Nimbus models manufactured from 3 August 1998 to 22 August 1999. In these vehicles, the SRS control unit may be affected by electrical noise that occurs on start-up; at worst, this could result in deployment of the air bag (PRA 2000/4353). The recalled vehicles had VINs in the following VIN ranges:
- JMFLNN84WXZ000101 to JMFLNN84WXZ000374; and,
- JMFLRN84WXZ000101 to JMFLRN84WXZ000710.
- In May 2001, a recall was issued for Mitsubishi UG Nimbus vehicles manufactured from 6 October 1997 and 28 December 2000 due to potential cracking of the upper fuel tank panel as a result of expansion and contraction of the fuel tank (caused by internal pressure changes). At worst, fuel may leak from the crack when the tank is full (PRA 2001/4760).
- In April 2003, a recall was issued for Mitsubishi UG Nimbus vehicles manufactured from 30 August 1998 to 16 January 2003. In these vehicles, the front brake hose could become twisted due to the location of the front brake hose mounting bracket. As a result, the hose may be subject to excessive stress when the steering is operated and the brakes may fail (PRA 2003/6085).
- In December 2003, a recall was issued for Mitsubishi UG Nimbus vehicles fitted with a Sports Roof Rack offered as a Genuine Accessory from May 2000 to March 2003 (Part Number MR921361). In some operating conditions, the mounting bracket retaining the Sports Roof Rack may become dislodged and, at worst, the Sports Roof Rack could become detached from the vehicle (PRA 2003/6666).
