2020 Nissan Z34 370Z: front steering knuckle and/or rear axle housing may deform

In July 2021, recall campaign R21A4 was issued for 2020 Nissan Z34 370Z vehicles and this recall was updated in August 2021. In these vehicles, the front steering knuckle and/or rear axle housing may not meet design specifications and may deform under pressure. If this occurred, the steering wheel may become off-centre, or the wheels may separate from the vehicle, increasing the risk of a collision and therefore injury to vehicle occupants and other road users. To fix, a Nissan dealer was to inspect and – if necessary – replace the front steering knuckle and/or rear axle housing. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-001673.

2008-10 Nissan Z34 370Z: won’t start due to electronic steering column lock (ESCL)

In March 2013, Nissan North America initiated voluntary service campaign P3208 to replace the steering lock assembly on certain 2009-10 model year Nissan Z34 370Z vehicles. According to Service Bulletin SB-10051829-6628, a manufacturing irregularity could cause excessive oil within the Electronic Steering Column Lock (ESCL) which increased internal resistance and triggered a time delay with the operation of the ESCL. If this time delay was outside of specifications, then the Engine Control Module (ECM, or Body Control Module, BCM) would prevent the engine from starting when the ignition was cycled. This problem, however, did not affect steering or engine operation when the vehicle was already running. To fix, the steering lock unit was to be replaced with a new unit (part number D8700-JF00D).

This problem was also described in NCA 2013/008 which was issued by Nissan UK in 2013; it identified affected Nissan 370Z vehicles as having been produced from 18 July 2008 to 24 March 2010.

Nissan 370Z: clutch pedal does not return to rest position

In April 2013, Nissan North America issued service bulletin SB-10051926-2342 for 2009-13 Nissan Z34 370Z vehicles that had six-speed manual transmissions. In these vehicles, the clutch pedal may not return to its normal (rested) position after being depressed to the floor despite the absence of leaks in the clutch hydraulic system. To fix, the clutch fluid was to be replaced with GT-R R35 Special Brake Fluid (Part # KN9U0-40001P).

Nissan Z34 370Z: power window switch replacement campaign

In January 2012, Nissan North America initiated a voluntary safety recall campaign (P1247) for 2011 model year Nissan 370Z vehicles to replace the power window switch for both front doors. According to NTB11-094a, the window switch in these vehicles may not have conformed to specifications such that the auto reverse feature may not work properly, increasing the risk of a pinch injury. To replace the switches, a power window switch kit (B5401 – 1EA3C) was required – this applied to both the driver and passenger side windows.

Nissan Z34 370Z: rear hatch does not open on first push of release button

In January 2010, Nissan North America issued Nissan Technical Bulletin 10-014 for Nissan Z34 370Z Coupe vehicles that were manufactured prior to 6 October 2009. For these Nissan 370Z vehicles, if 1) the rear hatch did not completely open with only one push of the release button (located above the license plate) and 2) the rear hatch opener actuator was working, then the rear hatch lifting springs were to be replaced with new ones (Part # 84415-1EA1E).

To determine if the rear hatch opener actuator (lock) was working, the technical bulletin described the following process:

  • Put your ear near the centre of the rear hatch;
  • Press the rear hatch release button; and,
  • If the actuator makes a clicking noise, then it is working.
