Recalls: Peugeot T9 308 GTi

Overview

Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.

Recalls: Peugeot T9 308 GTi

Peugeot T9 308 GTi: manufacturing flaw for door locks

In June 2016, a recall was issued for Peugeot T9 308 vehicles because a manufacturing flaw for the door locks could cause the internal mechanism of one or more locks to jam – this could prevent one or more of the doors from closing, or expose them to unexpected unlocking and opening. If the door lock(s) were to fail, they could cause injury to a third party or increase the risk of injury to occupants inside the vehicle. 2015 Peugeot T9 308 GTi: loss of tyre pressure

In December 2016, a recall was issued for sixty-four (64) Peugeot T9 308 GTi vehicles that had been available for sale from 1 August 2015 to 31 October 2015. These vehicles were fitted with tyre valves that could be defective and cause a loss of tyre pressure. The loss of tyre pressure could affect the handling of the vehicle and potentially cause a collision. For the VINs of the recalled Peugeot T9 308 GTi vehicles, please see PRA 2016/15713.

2015-17 Peugeot T9 308 GTi: short circuit and fire hazard

In July 2017, a recall was issued for Peugeot T9 308 GTi vehicles that were available for sale prior to 31 March 2017. In these vehicles, the 12 volt connection lug for the starter motor may have been fitted incorrectly such that it could contact a metal component and cause a short circuit, posing a fire hazard. 2016-17 Peugeot T9 308 GTi: loss of power braking assistance

In April 2021, recall campaign JZR was issued for Peugeot T9 308 GTi vehicles that were available for sale in Australia prior to 30 June 2017. In these vehicles, a reduction of available vaccum in the braking system – due to degradation of the timing belt if affected by aged engine oil – coudl result in lost or reduced power braking assistance. While the vehicle’s brakes would still be operable if power assistance was reduced or lost, there was an increased risk of a collision which could result in injury to vehicle occupants and/or other road users. 2017-20 Peugeot T9 308 GTi: ageing oil could affect timing belt and brake vacuum pump

In May 2023, recall campaign KGGKGH was issued for 2017-20 Peugeot T9 308 GTi vehicles. In these vehicles, ageing of the engine oil could cause material to detach from the timing belt and this could affect operation of the brake vacuum pump. If left unrepaired, this condition may result in a reduction or loss of power braking assistance – this could increase the risk of a collision and injury to vehicle occupants and/or other road users. To fix, a software update was to be applied which improved the vacuum diagnosis to provide an earlier warning about the risk of loss or reduction of braking assistance. Furthermore, the timing belt would be checked and, if needed, replaced with other components of the braking assistance system and the vacuum pump.
