Recalls: Renault X74 Laguna

Overview

Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.

Recalls: Renault X74 Laguna

  • In May 2003, a recall was issued for Renault X74 Laguna vehicles because the child restraint anchorages which may have not been fitted, or were fitted incorrectly (PRA 2003/6201).
  • In August 2003, a recall was issued for Renault X74 Laguna vehicles due to irregular programming of the injection computers – this could result in unintended acceleration and/or temporarily high idling speed (PRA 2003/6409).

Problems and faults: Renault X74 Laguna

  • The Renault X74 Laguna’s plenum can accumulate debris and potentially become flooded – this can cause the engine control unit (ECU) to fail as the plenum houses the engine control unit – this can lead to a range of electrical malfunctions.
  • Squeaking noises or excessive movement from the rear suspension may indicate that the rear suspension bushes are worn and require replacement.
  • Worn bushes may also lead to uneven rear tyre wear.For models with V6 petrol engines, the ignition coils were susceptible to failing.
  • For Renault X74 Laguna models with the 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine, the exhaust system could crack and separate just beyond the catalytic converter.
  • For Renault X74 Laguna models with the 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine, blocked exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valves may lead to high engine temperatures and turbocharger and intercooler failures.
  • There have been isolated cases of the alloy wheels buckling.
  • The coil springs – front and rear – were susceptible to breaking.
