Recalls: Suzuki JB Jimny

Overview

Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.

Recalls: Suzuki JB Jimny

  • In June 2010, a recall was issued for Suzuki Jimny models in the VIN range JSAFJB43V00210785 to JSAFJB43V00315918. For these vehicles, the plastic material coating the outer race of the power steering pump belt tensioner pulley was of insufficient durability. If the coating were to dislodge, there would be an abnormal noise; at worst, the belt may jump off the tensioner pulley and the vehicle may require increased steering effort (PRA 2010/11747).
  • In May 2014, a recall was issued for Suzuki SN413 Jimny vehicles that were produced from 7 May 2012 to 24 March 2014. In these vehicles, the joint fastening between the lateral road and the axle housing may become defective such that the fastening bolt of the joint may come loose and the steering wheel may vibrate. At worst, the bolt could drop off and steering function could be compromised, thereby posing a hazard to the driver and other road users (PRA 2014/14098, PRA 2014/14100).
  • In July 2015, a recall was issued for SN413 Jimny vehicles because resin fragments may accumulate in the Brake Hydraulic Control (HBC) unit due to an incorrect processing process and shaping of the components. The resin fragments could become stuck in the Hydraulic Control Valve and cause a delay of the pressure control when the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) was activated – this could result in a possible loss of stability and an increased risk of collision (PRA 2015/14829, PRA 2015/14830).
