Recalls: Suzuki Mk.5 Swift

Overview

Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.

2005 Suzuki Mk.5 Swift: fuel pump may fail

In July 2005, a recall was issued for Suzuki Mk.5 Swift vehicles due to the material of the fuel pump impeller being swollen by certain fuel properties, causing interference inside the impeller case. As a result, the fuel pump may cease to function (PRA 2005/7880).

Suzuki Mk.5 Swift: door mirrors could vibrate

In November 2010, a recall was issued for Suzuki Mk.5 Swift vehicles due to the absence of pre-coated adhesive (thread lock) on three screws on the outside of each external rear view mirror base. As a result, the screws could work loose and cause vibration of the mirror itself (PRA 2010/12114). The recalled vehicles had VINs in the following ranges –

  • Swift: JSAEZC21S00550104 to JSAEZC21S00558681; and,
  • Swift Sport: JSAEZC31S00204009 to JSAEZC31S00204880.

Suzuki Mk.5 Swift: engine may stall and not restart

In November 2013, a recall was issued for Suzuki Swift vehicles with automatic transmissions. In these vehicles, the bolts which fastened the drive plate to the torque converter may become loose or detach. This could lead to an abnormal noise or, at worst, the detached bolts could lodge in the drive plate cylinder block area – if this occurred, the engine may stall and not restart (PRA 2013/13831).

2009-10 Suzuki Swift: rear view door mirror may detach

In 2010, Suzuki UK issued a ‘non-code action’ for Suzuki Swift vehicles because the rear view door mirror could detach (NCA/2010/026). It is understood that affected Suzuki Swift vehicles were manufactured from 22 June 2009 to 19 January 2010.

Problems and faults: Suzuki Mk.5 Swift

  • For Suzuki Mk.5 Swift models with manual transmissions, grinding noises or difficulty holding gears may be due to the transmission bearings failing.
  • For some Swift models, the outside rear tyres wear badly on the outside edges – this has been attributed to the rear axle not being welded properly, causing the wheels to be out of alignment.
  • For rattling noises from the dashboard, it may be necessary to remove the dashboard to fix.
