Recalls: Suzuki Mk.6 Swift
Overview
Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.
Recalls: Suzuki Mk.6 Swift
- In March 2012, a recall was issued for Suzuki Mk.6 Swift vehicles that were available for sale from 1 February 2011 to 29 March 2012 and in the VIN range JSAFZC82S00100037 to JSAFZC82S00121974 (PRA 2012/13081); in May 2012, this recall was extended to vehicles available for sale from 1 April 2012 to 1 July 2012 and in the VIN range JSAFZC82S00121958 to JSAFZC82S00125480 (PRA 2012/13143). In these vehicles, a production error occurred with the installation of the fuel filler pipe hose clamp. As a result, deformation of the rubber filler hose could result in fuel escaping from the fuel tank filler port, creating a potential fire hazard.
- In November 2013, a recall was issued for Suzuki Swift vehicles with automatic or continuously variable transmissions. In these vehicles, the bolts which fastened the drive plate to the torque converter may become loose or detach. This could lead to an abnormal noise or, at worst, the detached bolts could lodge in the drive plate cylinder block area – if this occurred, the engine may stall and not restart (PRA 2013/13831, PRA 2013/13845).
- In August 2014, recalls were issued for Suzuki Mk.6 Swift vehicles that were manufactured from 28 June 2013 to 4 October 2013. In these vehicles, the fastening bolts on the water pump pulley may not have the correct tension and could loosen. If the vehicle continued to be driven, the belt may come off – causing the warning light to illuminate – and the engine would stop and not restart (PRA 2014/14283, PRA 2014/14285).
- In December 2014, a recall was issued for certain Suzuki Mk.6 Swift vehicles that were manufactured from 12 March 2012 to 30 December 2014. In these vehicles, the steering box cover was improperly shaped and this could affect the sealing of the cover. Consequently, water leakage could occur, causing rust and then wear. If wear occurred, an abnormal noise may be heard and, at worst, the steering may become inoperative, posing a potential accident hazard to the driver and other road users (PRA 2014/14463, PRA 2014/14469).
- In May 2016, a recall was issued for the Suzuki Mk.6 Swift and Swift Sport models. In these vehicles, the inner diameter of the cylinder that wrapped the piston on the parking brake may be wider than designed and not sealing inside the calliper – this could cause brake fluid to leak. At worst, the brakes may become inoperative, posing an accident hazard to the driver and other road users (PRA 2016/15420).
