Recalls: Toyota E150 Corolla
Overview
Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.
Recalls: Toyota E150 Corolla
2006-10 Toyota E150 Corolla: defective driver’s side window switch
In October 2012, a recall was issued for Toyota E150 Corolla vehicles produced between 1 February 2006 and 31 May 2010. In these vehicles, a sliding electrical contact module in the driver’s side power window master switch may have a ‘sticky’ feel during operation due to the non-uniform application of lubricant – this could cause wear to the internal sliding contact points. As a result, the switch may become inoperative. If, however, a commercially available lubricant was applied to rectify the operation, the switch assembly could potentially overheat and melt (PRA 2012/13327).
2008-10 Toyota E150 Corolla: defective driver’s side window switch
In November 2015, a recall was issued for Toyota E150 Corolla vehicles that were manufactured from August 2008 to June 2010. In these vehicles, the sliding electrical contacts in the driver’s side power window master switch may not have been lubricated with sufficient grease. As a result, wear residue from the electrical contact points could accumulate between the terminals during normal operation. This wear residue could cause a short circuit between the contact points, posing a fire hazard. For the VINs of the recalled Toyota Corollas, please seePRA 2015/14999.
2007-13 Toyota E150 Corolla: potential fuel leak
In July 2016, a recall was issued for Toyota E150 Corolla hatchbacks that were manufactured from 5 March 2007 to 23 July 2012 and Corolla sedans that were manufactured from 5 March 2007 to 30 September 2013. In these vehicles, the fuel suction plate that was located within the fuel tank may develop a crack which could expand over time. As a result, fuel may leak when the vehicle had a full tank of fuel; in the presence of an ignition source, the fuel or fuel vapour posed a fire hazard. For the VINs of the recalled Toyota E150 Corolla vehicles, please see PRA 2016/15491.
2006-09 Toyota E150 Corolla: Takata airbag recall #1
In October 2016, a recall was issued for Toyota E150 Corolla vehicles that were manufactured from 1 December 2006 to 25 December 2009. In these vehicles, the front passenger’s airbag inflator was susceptible to moisture intrusion and this could cause degradation of the inflator propellant. As a result, the airbag inflator assembly could rupture on deployment, dispersing metal fragments throughout the cabin which posed a risk of injury to vehicle occupants. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see PRA 2016/15709.
2010-12 Toyota E150 Corolla: Takata airbag recall #2
In April 2017, a recall was issued for Toyota E150 Corolla vehicles. An expansion of PRA 2016/15709, the front passenger airbags in these vehicles had propellant wafers that could absorb moisture over time. In the event of a collision, overly aggressive expansion of the airbag could cause the inflator housing to rupture such that metallic fragments could be dispersed throughout the cabin – these fragments posed a serious risk of injury to vehicle occupants (PRA 2017/16010). The recalled vehicles were as follows –
- E150 Corolla hatch:
- Manufactured from 6 January 2010 to 29 November 2011: JTN KU56E # 01114028 to JTN KU56E # 01182313;
- Manufactured from 10 January 2012 to 23 July 2012: JTN KU56E # 0J074334 to JTN KU56E # 0J097173
- Manufactured from 10 January 2012 to 23 July 2012: JTN KU58E # 01113973 to JTN KU58E # 01139216;
- E150 Corolla sedan:
- Manufactured from 6 January 2010 to 6 June 2011: JTN BU52E # 0J045450 to JTN BU52E # 0J064077;
- Manufactured from 6 January 2010 to 6 June 2011: JTN BU56E # 0J045455 to JTN BU56E # 0J102690; and,
- Manufactured from 25 March 2010 to 26 December 2012: JTN BZ56E # 0J000103 to JTN BZ56E # 0J000949.
2007-12 Toyota E150 Corolla: replacement airbag inflator may not have been installed correctly
In March 2018, a recall was issued for Toyota ZRE152/ZRE153 Corolla vehicles that were manufactured from 6 March 2007 to 26 December 2012. While these vehicles had been recalled to have their front passenger airbags replaced as part of previous Takata airbag recalls PRA 2016/15709 and PRA 2017/16010), there was a possibility that the replacement airbag inflator may have been installed incorrectly. The front passenger airbag may therefore not inflate as intended during deployment and this would increase the risk of injury (PRA 2018/1664). The recalled Toyota E150 Corolla vehicles were as follows –
- Toyota ZRE152 Corolla sedans manufactured from 6 March 2007 to 1 September 2010: VINs in the range JTN BU52E # 02000030 to JTN BU52E # 0J056143;
- Toyota ZRE152 Corolla sedans manufactured from 14 March 2007 to 26 December 2012: VINs in the range JTN BU56E # 02000244 to JTN BU56E # 0J102690;
- Toyota ZRE15E Corolla sedans manufactured from 26 March 2010 to 25 December 2012: VINs in the range JTN BZ56E # 0J000104 to JTN BZ56E # 0J000947;
- Toyota ZRE152 Corolla hatchbacks manufactured from 7 March 2007 to 30 September 2009: VINs in the range JTN KU52E # 01007835 to JTN KU52E # 0J000793;
- Toyota ZRE152 Corolla hatchbacks manufactured from 12 March 2007 to 23 July 2012: VINs in the range JTN KU56E # 01007454 to JTN KU56E # 0J097164; and,
- Toyota ZRE152 Corolla hatchbacks manufactured from 1 October 2009 to 31 August 2010: VINs in the range JTN KU58E # 01105674 to JTN KU58E # 01139216.
2013 Toyota E150 Corolla: Takata airbag recall #3
In April 2018, a recall was issued for Toyota ZRE152 and ZRE153 Corolla vehicles that were manufactured from 7 January 2013 to 30 September 2013. An expansion of PRA 2017/16010, the front passenger airbags in these vehicles had propellant wafers that could absorb moisture over time. In the event of a collision, overly aggressive expansion of the airbag could cause the inflator housing to rupture such that metallic fragments could be dispersed throughout the cabin – these fragments posed a serious risk of injury to vehicle occupants (PRA 2018/16715). The recalled Toyota E150 Corolla vehicles had VINs in the following ranges:
- JTN BU56E # 0J102671 to JTN BU56E # 0J108656; and,
- JTN BZ56E # 0J000950 to JTN BZ56E # 0J001037.
