Recalls & faults: Volkswagen CR Touareg (2018-on)

Recalls: Volkswagen CR Touareg

Overview

Manufacturers, or importers, issue recalls for defects or faults which have the potential to cause injury. Generally, manufacturers will inform the original buyers if their vehicle is subject to a recall and of the steps required to remedy the defect or fault. Please note that the recalls below (if any) are for Australian-delivered vehicles only. Furthermore, the number of recalls should not be taken as an indication of a model’s reliability or its safety more generally.

2019-20 Volkswagen CR Touareg: transmission oil leak due to incorrect weld

In June 2020, recall campaign 38C6 was issued for Volkswagen Touareg vehicles that were available for sale in Australia from 1 December 2019 to 31 May 2020. In these vehicles, a gearbox oil pipe may have been incorrectly welded and this could result in a transmission oil leakage. If transmission oil leaked, the risk of a collision – and therefore injury to occupants and other road users – increased. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see PRA 2020/18353.

2019 Volkswagen CR Touareg: tailgate coil springs could detach

In November 2021, recall campaign 55L6 was issued for 2019 Volkswagen CR Touareg vehicles. If the tailgate was opened and manually pushed up too far, the pre-compressed coil springs could become detached from the boot strut and detach with great force from the mounting. These detached coil springs could cause significant injuries to vehicle users and bystanders. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-004990.

2021 Volkswagen CR Touareg: rear axle nuts could break

In July 2021, recall campaign 42K9 was issued for 2021 Volkswagen CR Touareg vehicles; this recall was then updated in August 2021. In these vehicles, nuts fitted to the rear axle assembly may not meet manufacturing specifications and may therefore break. A broken nut on the rear axle assembly could cause increased movement between the wishbone and hub carrier, and a change in the wheel alignment on the rear axle. If this occurred, the rear axle may experience sudden and uncontrollable movement; this increased the risk of a collision and injury to vehicle occupants and other road users. For the VINs of the recalled vehicles, please see REC-001677.
