Review: Chery T1X.I J11 (2011-14)
Overview
Released in March 2011, the Chery T1X Series I (T1X.I) J11 was a compact, front-wheel drive SUV. Manufactured in Wuhu, China, the front-wheel drive J11 was powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that was mated to either a four-speed automatic or five-speed manual transmission.
The 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine had double overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder and a compression ratio of 10.0:1.
The J11 was 4285 mm long, 1765 mm wide, 1716 mm tall and had a 2510 mm long wheelbase, while ground clearance was 168 mm. Furthermore, the J11 had MacPherson strut front suspension and semi-independent rear suspension with trailing arms.
Engine | Trans. | Peak power | Peak torque | |
---|---|---|---|---|
J11 | 2.0-litre petrol I4 | 5sp man, 4sp auto |
102 kW at 5750 rpm | 182 Nm at 4300-4500 rpm |
Safety equipment
Standard safety equipment for the J11 included dual front airbags, ABS, electronic brake force distribution and front seat belt pretensioners. Because the J11 was not fitted with electronic stability control, it was not available for sale in Victoria.
ANCAP crash testing
In ANCAP crash testing , the J11 was given an interim two star adult occupant protection rating. In the frontal offset crash test, the J11 achieved a score of 2 out of 16 as the passenger compartment lost structural intergrity and provided poor protection from serious chest, leg and foot injury for the driver. Due to a recall that would affect side impact protection, a side impact test was not conducted and an interim two-star rating was given on the basis that even if the maximum side impact score was achieved, the J11 would receive a two star rating. Ordinarily, however, a front offset score of at least 4.5 would be required for a two star rating.
Features
Standard features for the J11 included 16-inch alloy wheels with 215/65 R16 tyres, a four speaker sound system with a CD player, MP3-compatibility and auxiliary input (3.5mm), air conditioning, leather-trimmed seats, a six-way adjustable driver’s seat, front fog lights, 60/40 split and folding rear seats, remote central locking, power windows and mirrors, a height adjustable steering column, 12 volt power socket, cargo cover and an immobiliser.
Models with automatic transmissions were also fitted with cruise control.
