Review: Dodge JS Avenger (2007-10)

Overview

Released in August 2007, the Dodge JS Avenger was a mid-size sedan. Manufactured in Michigan, USA, the front-wheel drive JS Avenger was available with a choice of four engines:

  • the 2.0- and 2.4-litre petrol engines had an aluminium block, double overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder and variable intake and exhaust valve timing;
  • the 2.0-litre Volkswagen turbo-diesel engine had a cast iron block, an aluminium alloy cylinder head, Pumpe Duse direct injection, a single overhead camshaft, two valves per cylinder and a compression ratio of 18.0:1; and,
  • the 2.7-litre V6 petrol engine had an aluminium block, cast-iron cylinder liners, aluminium double overhead camshaft cylinder heads, four valves per cylinder and a compression ratio of 9.9:1.

Beyond the engines, the Avenger was offered in SX and SXT editions; the full range is given in the table below.

Compared to the Chrysler JS Sebring with which it shared its platform, the JS Avenger had the same dimensions: 4850 mm long, 1843 mm wide, 1497 mm tall and with a 2765 mm long wheelbase. Furthermore, the Avenger had MacPherson strut front suspension and independent, multi-link rear suspension (both with coil springs, hydraulic shock absorbers and anti-roll bars).
