Overview
Released in June 1992, the Lexus XV10 ES 300 was a mid-size sedan. Manufactured in Japan, the front-wheel drive Lexus XV10 ES 300 was powered by a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine that was mated to a four-speed automatic transmission.
3VZ-FE engine
The 3.0-litre 3VZ-FE V6 petrol engine had a cast iron block, aluminium cylinder heads, a forged steel crankshaft, cast connecting rods, double overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder, a variable-length intake manifold (Toyota’s ACIS) and a compression ratio of 9.6:1. The electronically-controlled four-speed automatic transmission was Aisin-Warner’s A540/1E unit.

Development and dimensions
The Lexus XV10 ES 300 shared its underpinnings with the XV10 Camry, but was distinguished by its suspension design, additional sound insulation, projector headlights and styling (including a concealed B-pillar and frameless windows).
The XV10 ES 300 was 4780 mm long, 1780 mm wide, 1390 mm wide and had a 2620 mm long wheelbase; kerb weight was 1550 kg, while the drag coefficient was 0.32 Cd.
Suspension
The Lexus XV10 ES 300 had MacPherson strut front suspension with L-shaped lower arms and MacPherson strut rear suspension (both with coil springs and anti-roll bars).
Safety equipment
Standard safety equipment for the Lexus XV10 ES 300 included a driver’s airbag and ABS.
From August 1993, a front passenger airbag was also fitted as standard.
Brakes
The Lexus XV10 ES 300 had 275 mm by 28 mm vented front brake discs and 288 mm by 10 mm solid rear discs.

Extra-cost options for the ES 300 included a power sunroof and cellular phone.
August 1993: ES 300 update
In August 1993, the ES 300 underwent a cosmetic update – these models could be identified by their three-slat grilles (previously four-slat), new headlights, fog lights and ambient temperature reading.
