Review: Maserati Mk.2-I Ghibli (1993-95)
Overview
Released in Australia in October 1993, the Maserati Mk.2 Series I (Mk.2-I) Ghibli was a four-seat coupe. Manufactured in Modena, Italy, the Ghibli was powered by a 2.8-litre twin turbocharged V6 petrol engine with double overhead camshafts per cylinder bank and four valves per cylinder. While the Ghibli was initially available with a five-speed manual transmission, a four-speed automatic transmission was introduced in 1994. In 1995, however, a six-speed Getrag manual transmission replaced the five-speed unit.
Based on the Biturbo , the Ghibli shared that model’s basic bodyshell, interior and doors. As such, the Ghibli was 4223 mm long, 1775 mm tall, 1300 mm tall and had a 2514 mm long wheelbase.
The Ghibli’s front suspension consisted of MacPherson struts with dual-rate telescopic dampers, coil springs and an anti-roll bar. At the rear, the Ghibli had semi-trailing arms, coil springs and dual-rate hydraulic telescopic dampers.

Standard safety equipment for the Maserati Ghibli included ABS. The Ghibli was fitted with ventilated 307 mm front and 316 mm rear brake discs.

Overview
Released in March 1996, the Mk.2 Series II (Mk.2-II) Ghibli GT introduced minor engine and exhaust revisions to comply with EU emissions requirements.

Safety equipment and features
Compared to its Mk.2-I predecessor, standard safety equipment for the Mk.2-II Ghibli GT was extended to include a driver’s airbag. Features were largely unchanged, although the Ghibli GT was fitted with 17-inch seven-spoke alloy wheels.
