Review: Nissan D22.I Navara cab chassis (1997-99)
Overview
Released in April 1997, the Nissan D22 Series I (D22.I) Navara cab chassis was solely available in a single cab body, but with a choice of three engines: a 2.4-litre four-cylinder petrol unit and 2.7- and 3.2-litre diesel engines; there was also a choice of rear- or four-wheel drive models.
The 4WD system consisted of a chain-driven transfer case with a non backlash mechanism, low ratio (2.02:1) gearing and free-running hubs; a limited slip differential was also fitted. In two-wheel drive mode, torque was carried directly through the transfer case; when four-wheel drive was engaged, power was split such that the drive to the forward shaft was engaged via the chain.
