Review: Nissan D22.I Navara utility (1997-99)
Overview
Released in April 1997, the Nissan D22 Series I (D22.I) utility was solely available in a dual cab body, but with a choice of three engines: a 2.4-litre four-cylinder petrol unit and 2.7- and 3.2-litre diesel engines; there was also a choice of rear- or four-wheel drive models. The full range is given in the table below.
The 4WD system consisted of a chain-driven transfer case with a non backlash mechanism, low ratio (2.02:1) gearing and free-running hubs; a limited slip differential was also fitted. In two-wheel drive mode, torque was carried directly through the transfer case; when four-wheel drive was engaged, power was split such that the drive to the forward shaft was engaged via the chain.

Features
Standard features for the Navara DX included cloth seats, power steering, a tilt adjustable steering column and vinyl floor. The ST was further equipped with a two speaker sound system with a radio and cassette player, ‘luxury moquette’ fabric, central locking, power windows and carpeted floors.
Review: Nissan D22.II Navara utility (1999-00)
Overview
Released in July 1999, the D22 Series II (D22.II) Navara utility introduced a new 2.4-litre DOHC petrol engine which was also available with a four-speed automatic transmission. Furthermore, the capacity of the fuel tank increased to 75 litres.
Visually, the D22.II Navara dual cab utility could be identified by its chrome front bumper insert. Inside, there was a new dashboard with a blue-coloured meter design, a new centre console and four-spoke steering wheel.

Standard features for the Navara DX were extended to include a two speaker sound system with radio and cassette player; child-proof rear door locks were also introduced as standard. The ST variant was also fitted with a CD player.

Overview
Released in June 2000, the D22 Series III (D22.III) Navara utility introduced a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine, new front grille, headlights and tail-lights.

Review: Nissan D22.IV Navara utility (2001-06)
Overview
Released in December 2001, the D22 Series IV (D22.IV) Navara utility introduced a new 3.0-litre turbo-diesel engine and a sports variant (the ‘ST-R’). The suspension was also revised for improved ride comfort and handling and other changes were made to reduce noise, vibration and harshness. In March 2003, the range was further expanded with the introduction of a 3.3-litre V6 petrol engine. In 2006, the D22.IV Navara utility was withdrawn from the Australian market.

Features
Standard features for the Navara DX and ST were largely unchanged. Compared to the ST, the ST-R variant was distinguished by its 16-inch alloy wheels, CD player, central locking and flares.
From March 2003, a CD player was standard across the range.
In May 2004, the Navara ST-R variants were updated as a driver’s airbag and front seatbelt pretensioners were introduced as standard safety equipment. Furthermore, the ST-R was fitted with wider 265/70 R16 all-terrain tyres, revised suspension, chrome power mirrors and revised interior colours, including black seat trim.
Review: Nissan D22.V Navara utility (2008-14)
Overview
Released in February 2008, the D22 Series V (D22.V) Navara marked the D22 Navara’s return to the Australian market following its withdrawal in 2006. The D22 Navara utility was solely available in a dual cab body, with a 2.5-litre turbo-diesel engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission and as an ST-R variant.
