Review: Peugeot D2.I 407 Coupe (2006-09)
Overview
Released in March 2006, the Peugeot D2 Phase I (D2.I) 407 Coupe was a two-door, front-wheel drive vehicle. Manufactured in Rennes, France, the 407 Coupe was available with either a 2.9-litre V6 petrol engine (the ‘2.9i V6’ variants) or a 2.7-litre twin-turbo diesel engine (‘2.7 HDi’).
Engines
Of these engines,
- The 2.9-litre ES9 V6 petrol engines had aluminium construction, double overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder, variable valve timing for the intake camshafts and a compression ratio of 10.5:1; and,
- The 2.7-litre DT17 turbo-diesel engines had a compacted graphite iron (CGI) block, high-pressure common-rail direct injection, twin turbochargers with an air-to-air intercooler, double overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder and a compression ratio of 18.0:1.
Both engines were available with six-speed automatic transmissions, while the petrol engine was also offered with a six-speed manual unit.
Dimensions
Compared to the Peugeot 407 sedan on which it was based, the 407 Coupe was 139 mm longer (at 4815 mm), 57 mm wider (1868 mm) and 47 mm lower (1400 mm), though wheelbase length was unchanged (2725 mm); boot capacity was 400 litres. According to Peugeot, the centre of gravity for the 407 Coupe was 25 mm lower than the 407 sedan.
The 407 Coupe 2.9i V6 had a kerb weight of 1738 kg or 1763 kg (depending on transmission type), while the 407 2.7 HDi had a kerb weight of 1850 kg.
Steering and suspension
The 407 Coupe had electrohydraulic power steering in which assistance was varied according to vehicle speed, engine speed, steering angle and wheel speed. The 407 Coupe had a turning circle of 12.0 metres.
The 407 Coupe had double wishbone front suspension and independent, multi-link rear suspension. Furthermore, the suspension included electronically controlled dampers which enabled the driver to select between ‘normal’ and ‘sport’ modes.

Safety equipment
Standard safety equipment for the Peugeot 407 Coupe included dual front airbags, a driver’s knee airbag, front side airbags, full-length curtain airbags (i.e. for front and second rows), ABS, brake assist, electronic brake force distribution, electronic stability control, traction control, active front headrests, front seatbelt pretensioners and seatbelt load limiters for front and outer rear seats.
Brakes
The Peugeot 407 Coupe had 330 mm by 30 mm ventilated front brake discs and 290 mm by 12 mm solid rear discs.
Euro NCAP crash testing
In Euro NCAP crash testing , a 2005 407 Coupe with a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine achieved a five star adult occupant protection rating with a score of 35.41 out of 37. In the frontal offset impact test, the 407 Coupe scored maximum points, providing good protection from serious injury for both front occupants. In the side impact test, there was a slight risk of serious chest injury for the driver.

Standard features for the Peugeot 407 Coupe included 18-inch alloy wheels with 235/45 R18 tyres and a full-size spare, a nine speaker JBL sound system with a six-stack CD player and MP3-compatibility, dual-zone climate control air conditioning, a cooled glovebox, leather seats, power adjustable and heated front seats with driver’s seat memory settings, cruise control (with speed limiter), directional bi-xenon headlights, front and rear fog lamps, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, front and rear parking sensors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, remote central locking, power windows and heated mirrors with a folding function, automatically dipping door mirrors when reversing, tilt and telescopic steering wheel adjustment, tinted windows, a cargo net, trip computer, tyre pressure sensors and an immobiliser.

Review: Peugeot D2.II 407 Coupe (2009-11)
Overview
Released in June 2009, the D2 Phase II (D2.II) 407 Coupe introduced a revised line-up as the 2.9-litre V6 petrol engine was discontinued. Visually, the D2.II 407 Coupe could be identified by the chrome strip surrounding its door windows, revised Peugeot bonnet badge and revised centre console.
