Review: Peugeot T8 3008 (2010-16)

2.5 stars

  • Responsive and economical 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine
  • Good cargo space
  • Generally competent ride/handling balance…
  • … but suspension lacks compliance on 18-inch wheels
  • For 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine, turbo lag and indecisive automatic transmission
  • Limited rear seat legroom
  • Light steering lacks precision at higher speeds

Dimensions and suspension

Based on the PSA PF2 platform which was shared with the Peugeot 308 Wagon/Touring , the 3008 was 4365 mm long, 1837 mm wide, 1635 mm tall and had a 2613 mm long wheelbase. Furthermore, the 3008 had MacPherson strut front suspension with a linked anti-roll bar and a torsion beam rear axle with two rear suspension arms and an integral roll bar.

Safety equipment

Standard safety equipment for the Peugeot 3008 included dual front airbags, front side airbags, full length curtain airbags, ABS, electronic brake force distribution, brake assist, electronic stability control, rollover stability control (‘dynamic roll control’), traction control, hill assist and front seatbelts with pretensioners and load limiters.

Brakes

The 1.6 HDi had 283 mm by 26 mm ventilated front brake discs and 268 mm by 12 mm solid rear discs. The 1.6 Turbo and 2.0 HDi variants, however, had 302 mm by 26 mm ventilated front brake discs.

Euro NCAP testing

In Euro NCAP testing , the 3008 1.6 HDi variant achieved a five star safety rating which included an 86 per cent adult occupant protection rating and an 81 per cent child occupant protection rating. In the offset crash test, there was a slight risk of serious leg injury for the driver and the front passenger airbag was torn during deployment, causing it to vent in a manner contrary to its design – Peugeot attributed this to incorrect splitting of the airbag cover and an improved design was subsequently introduced. In the pole impact test, chest protection was marginal.

Under ANCAP’s methodology , this testing resulted in an adult protection score of 35.07 out of 37.

Grip Control

The 3008 was also available with an optional ‘Grip Control’ system, which included 16-inch mud and snow tyres and enabled the driver to select from five traction control settings including ‘snow’, ‘sand’ and ‘all-terrain’.

Features: 3008 XSE, Active, XTE and Allure

Standard features for the 3008 XSE included 17-inch alloy wheels, a six speaker sound system with CD player, dual zone climate control air conditioning, cooled center console, cruise control and speed limiter, rear parking sensors, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, front and rear fog lights, leather-wrapped steering wheel, remote central locking, 60/40 split and flat folding rear seats, horizontally split-tailgate opening, driver’s seat lumbar adjustment, electric park brake, power windows and mirrors, power folding and heated mirrors, height and reach adjustable steering wheel, three 12 volt power outlets, a trip computer and an immobiliser.

With the introduction of the 3008 Active, standard features were extended to include a USB port, Bluetooth connectivity, a panoramic glass roof and head-up display.

Beyond this, the 3008 XTE was further equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels, USB port, Bluetooth connectivity, distance control warning, heads-up display, panoramic glass roof with power sunblind, rear seat sun blinds and an electrochromatic rear view mirror.
